There will be a few other head coaches around the NFL who get fired over the next few months, especially right when the season ends.
One potential coach on the hot seat is Mike McDaniel of the Miami Dolphins.
McDaniel and the Dolphins have played some very good football over the past few weeks, now putting themselves in a position to even make the playoffs.
However, if the Dolphins struggle down the stretch and pull their typical Miami collapse, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the front office and ownership cut ties with McDaniel. It remains unlikely as of now, but crazier things have happened.
If it does happen, Mina Kimes of ESPN believes the Philadelphia Eagles could be a beneficiary of the situation. She believes that if McDaniel were fired, he would be the perfect offensive coordinator in Philadelphia.
"You bring in a new offensive coordinator, you pray that Mike McDaniel gets fired," Kimes said. "The [Dolphins'] run game is absolutely cooking, and I think that's what brings me to job No. 1 for the Eagles organization. This is my firm belief, if you continue with Hurts ... you have to accept the reality that your quarterback has to be paired with a good run game to have success because of the way he sees the field."
Others don’t believe that scenario is realistic, including Ben Solak of ESPN, who said the Dolphins are simply playing too well right now for any of that to be on the table.
"Not gonna happen, dude," Solak said. "The Dolphins are playing their tails off right now."
Regardless of how unlikely it seems, as I mentioned above, there’s always a possibility Miami flames out and struggles toward the back end of the year.
If that happens, anything can really happen.
And it’s only fair to say that if the Eagles were able to replace Kevin Patullo with a play-caller like McDaniel, especially with the offensive talent Philadelphia has on all fronts, it would be a major boost for this team.
Whether it happens remains to be seen, but one thing feels safe to say: Patullo won’t be with the organization next year.
