It's all but guaranteed that the Philadelphia Eagles will add a pass rusher at the trade deadline, but there's still uncertainty around who they might go after.
While it's essential that the Eagles acquire a player who can significantly contribute to their success toward the back end of the season as they aim to go back-to-back and win another Super Bowl, it's also important to note that there may be some challenges in finding the perfect player.
According to the latest report, it sounds like the Eagles are big fish hunting.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Eagles are one of the teams that have contacted the Cincinnati Bengals about edge rusher Trey Hendrickson.
She added that teams don't expect the Bengals to move on from Hendrickson, but depending on how things unfold over the next few days and what the Eagles and other teams around the league are willing to give up for him, anything is truly possible.
"Many teams, including the Rams, 49ers, Lions, Colts and Eagles, have called the Bengals on numerous players, including LB Logan Wilson, CB Cam Taylor-Britt and, of course, DE Trey Hendrickson," Russini wrote. "For now, some teams don’t believe Cincinnati has any real interest in moving its core pieces."
Hendrickson had a tough offseason, looking to get paid like one of the top edge rushers in the league.
He eventually got a short-term deal worth the money he was looking for, but it wasn't long enough in length, so it's something Philadelphia will have to consider in the future.
Throughout the 2025 campaign, his numbers have been down compared to years past, with just 4.0 sacks.
However, he's coming off two straight seasons with 17.5 sacks in each.
Hendrickson is as good as anyone in the NFL at getting to the quarterback, and would be a significant upgrade to what Philadelphia currently has on its roster.
If I had to guess, I'd assume that the Bengals would at least be looking for a second-round pick, but the contract situation likely complicates that.
