Sometimes credit is due to teams around the NFL, and that’s all I can really say about the Dallas Cowboys right now.
I know I’ve been on record a few times saying I thought the division was done, and the Eagles certainly haven’t helped that claim.
Philadelphia had an opportunity to run away with the division just a few weeks ago, but has now been one of the more disappointing teams in the NFL over the past few weeks, while the Cowboys have played some great football.
While I still feel rather confident in the Eagles winning the division, others don’t, including Cowboys legend Troy Aikman. Aikman believed that if the Cowboys beat the Detroit Lions on Thursday night and the Eagles lose to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday, there was a chance Dallas could win the division.
“I feel that if Dallas can beat Detroit and if Philly were to lose to the Chargers,” Aikman said, per the Dallas News. “I would predict that the Cowboys win the division. I just think they will be positioned really well to do that.
“If the Cowboys lose or even if they win and the Eagles win, I think it’s going to be pretty tough sledding for them to try to win the division.”
If the Eagles lose on MNF, I’m curious if Aikman will still feel this way.
We also have to give credit to what the Cowboys have done on the defensive side of the football.
Jerry Jones might not always make the greatest moves, but he clearly made the right call when he pulled off a blockbuster deal for Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets.
He also made a few other moves at the trade deadline, and to his credit, they’ve worked out on the defensive side of the ball for Dallas.
“It wasn’t just the trade of Quinnen Williams,” Aikman said. “The way that they’re using the personnel that they have, the others that came back, [DeMarvion] Overshown being one of them, and then Logan Wilson, him joining the team, some of the leadership he brings. I just think it was a collection of things coming together at the right time and cleaning it up.”
