The Philadelphia Eagles need to pursue another running back after their latest injuries.

The Philadelphia Eagles are facing multiple injuries in their running back room, with star Saquon Barkley week-to-week with a hamstring injury and Tank Bigsby placed on injured reserve.

That leaves Will Shipley as the Eagles' starting running back, with no depth out of the backfield. Shipley has rushed for 51 yards on 15 carries through the first four games of the season.

Although Philadelphia won't be without Barkley long-term, they will need to acquire another running back in the meantime to contribute alongside Shipley.

Eagles RB Targets

Dameon Pierce

Featured stories

Dameon Pierce is the most likely candidate to be one of the Eagles' running backs. Pierce is on the practice squad and spent training camp and the preseason with the franchise.

He had a strong rookie year with the Houston Texans in 2022, rushing for 939 yards and four touchdowns. However, he hasn't done much in recent seasons and only appeared in five games in 2025.

With a bigger role up for grabs, Philadelphia could elevate Pierce to the roster and hope he can recapture the form he showed in his rookie campaign and become a solid contributor to the backfield.

Jaydon Blue

Another running back that Philadelphia could elevate from the practice squad is Jaydon Blue. Blue spent his rookie year in 2025 with the Dallas Cowboys, rushing for 129 yards and a touchdown on 38 carries.

The 22-year-old could be elevated to the roster if they believe he is a better option than Pierce.

Carson Steele

Carson Steele is another running back on the Eagles' practice squad. Steele appeared in 17 games as a rookie with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024, rushing for 183 yards on 56 carries.

He would give Philadelphia a different type of back, as he thrives in short-yardage scenarios.

Antonio Gibson

If the Eagles aren't confident in any of their practice squad running backs, they could look at free-agent options. Antonio Gibson tore his ACL a year ago, was released by the New England Patriots, and has remained a free agent.

Prior to the injury, Gibson provided value as a solid runner and receiver out of the backfield. In his six-year career, he has rushed for 3,287 yards and 24 touchdowns while catching 197 passes for 1,495 yards and seven touchdowns. He could be a quality signing if Philadelphia wants a veteran running back.

Raheem Mostert

Raheem Mostert is another veteran option in free agency. Mostert played in 12 games in 2025 for the Las Vegas Raiders, rushing for 104 yards on 22 carries. The 34-year-old could try to revitalize his career if given an opportunity in Philadelphia.

Final Thoughts

The Eagles don't have the best options available, but it's clear they will need to make a move in their running back room while Barkley and Bigsby miss time.
