The Atlanta Falcons got their biggest win of the year.
The Atlanta Falcons earned the biggest victory so far in the Kevin Stefanski era on Sunday afternoon, defeating the San Francisco 49ers 29-20 at home and handing who might be the best team in football their first loss of the season.
It was always going to be a massive challenge, but at the end of the day, Atlanta was the better team in this game, and that showed in countless different ways on the scoreboard. Winning time of possession, taking less penalties and being more effective on special teams is always great, but there was one huge thing that helped the Falcons get the win.
Forcing four turnovers including two fumbles and two Brock Purdy interceptions while not turning the ball over themselves was the absolute biggest difference in this one and why Atlanta was able to get to 3-4 with the whole season still ahead of them.
Michael Penix Was Sensational in Victory for Falcons
Penix was one of the best players on the field to help get Atlanta their first home victory of the season in a very impressive showing. Penix completed 25 of his 34 passes for 213 yards, three touchdown passes and most importantly, no interceptions. It's not that Penix put up massive numbers, it's that he did what was needed to win the football game as well as taking care of the ball.
With this version of their quarterback, the Falcons can beat a whole lot of teams in this league.
Falcons Remain Involved in Very Muddy NFC South Race
In a wacky day for the division where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers absolutely dominated the Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints lost in Paris, 3-4 places Atlanta just a half game behind Carolina for first place in the division.
With Tampa Bay up next for Atlanta, it's a massive divisional game next week to try to get right back to .500 and potentially seize first place depending on what the Panthers do on Thursday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers.
This is a week to week league and anyone can beat anyone on any given Sunday, but this was a great win for the Falcons and one that should send a message to the rest of the league that this team is dangerous and hungry.
Now, Atlanta must turn the page quickly and get ready to hit the road for the huge test against the Buccaneers.
