The Atlanta Falcons head coach is not hitting the panic button just yet.

The Atlanta Falcons head into a new week of joint practices with the Indianapolis Colts coming off a preseason defeat at the hands of the Denver Broncos in which a whole lot of folks were very concerned at what they saw.

Overreacting to preseason performances both from the team and individual players is an annual tradition for just about every fanbase in football, but after a lopsided loss in which the first team did not look great, there are those ready to smash the panic button. Head coach Kevin Stefanski is not one of them though, and with the Falcons turning the page towards a joint practice week against the Indianapolis Colts, Atlanta's new head coach is keeping a cool head.

Stefanski was asked about the performance of Tua Tagovailoa and his struggled as well as the first team offense as a whole, and while of course he agreed it was not good enough, he emphasized the fact it was a limited number of plays and there is still work to do.

Stefanski Not Panicking Over Tagovailoa's Struggles Yet

"He wants to be better," Stefanski told Falcons.com of Tagovailoa. "Our offense wants to be better. Our coaches want to be better in those nine plays. ... We don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves, and be where our feet are. Trying to improve on some of the small things that we identify as coaches and correct them this week."

On one hand, this is exactly the kind of attitude you want a head coach to have, especially with a good bit of time until the actual season arrives. Even if Stefanski were actually concerned about the offense, letting the media know that fact is not generally in the job description of an NFL head coach.

Still though, despite it only being nine plays, things did not look right at all. With Michael Penix Jr. still on the sidelines, Tagovailoa is likely the Week 1 starting quarterback, and the tape he put out did not inspire any confidence that he is going to give this team a chance to win games in 2026.

With still weeks left in camp though, Stefanski is ready to buckle down with his staff and figure out how to get the most out of this offense right out of the gate. It's still early, but the indications right now are not extremely positive coming out of the first real look at this year's roster.
