Falcons May Have One of Best Rooms in NFL at This Position Group

The Atlanta Falcons are in a strong spot here.

The Atlanta Falcons are headed into the regular season just three weeks from now with some very tough calls to make at multiple positions along with some others which look like major question marks.

While the health of Michael Penix Jr. and the struggles of Tua Tagovailoa in the first preseason game may have folks concerned about quarterback, whoever is out there throughout the season needs guys to throw to. When it comes to a quarterback's security blanket, there is no one who fits the bill more so than the tight end.

Even when Tagovailoa was struggling, he was completing passes to Kyle Pitts last Friday night against the Denver Broncos, but the room goes beyond just the presence of Pitts. In fact, top to bottom Atlanta may have one of the better tight end rooms in all of football.

Falcons Tight End Room is Strong Beyond Just Pitts

Atlanta made a move this offseason that was a bit quiet at the time but could allow them a whole lot more flexibility with what they can do on offense this season when they signed Austin Hooper to bring him back to the organization.

Hooper may not be the player he was a decade ago when he came to the Falcons and had the two most productive seasons of his career to make the Pro Bowl back in 2018 and 2019, but he is still a steady and reliable playmaker who can be thrown out there and counted on. The combination of Hooper and Pitts should allow for some exciting 12 personnel sets this season, something which could take the strain off quarterback.

Hooper had 739 yards and five touchdowns over the last two seasons for the New England Patriots playing second fiddle to Hunter Henry, and now he gets the chance to return to where it all began and potentially finish off his career.

Beyond just Hooper, Atlanta has two more quality options in Charlie Woerner as well as Joshua Simon, and while one will likely be relegated to the practice squad, the depth there is real and the team has numerous guys they can count on.

Pairing Pitts up with Hooper may not be something that fans across the league recognize as a big move, but it would not be a surprise to see the Falcons have one of the more productive tight end rooms in all of football this season.
