The Atlanta Falcons need to get Kyle Pitts more involved.
The Atlanta Falcons are headed into Week 4 as a winner after their Thursday night victory over the Green Bay Packers which sent some waves across football.
While the story of the night may have been quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and his grand return to the lineup sparking a 500-yard night for the offense, there were other notable things as well. The two biggest stars on the team were just that, with Bijan Robinson and Drake London collecting more than 400 of the yards themselves.
The one name who was missing from that production was the next biggest star on the offense in tight end Kyle Pitts. Pitts was the third skill position player the team handed a lucrative extension to in the offseason, yet he has barely been been involved in the offense. Through three games, he has just two receptions for 20 yards, collecting one against the Packers for five yards and not getting any more involved once Penix got back on the field.
Pitts Lack of Production So Far Has Been Extremely Troubling
Ultimately, the most important thing of course is getting a victory and nobody is going to be upset in the locker room after getting that done. With that being said, Atlanta paid Pitts like one of the top tight ends in football, and they simply are not using him like one and he is not doing enough.
If this offense is going to reach its full potential, Pitts is going to have to be a significant part of what they do. Part of that is on coaching and making it a point to get him more involved, and it's also on Penix to look his way moving forward after he threw just 25 passes against the Packers. However, it's also on Pitts to find a way to make his presence known on the field, draw attention from opposing defense, and catch the ball when it comes his way.
The new coaching staff has praised Pitts all offseason long, and it does not seem like any sort of effort issue. Still though, it's just going to have to be better than it has been so far, and if they can't get him involved, then paying him was a mistake.
Pitts will find a way to get the ball in his hands here soon, but until he does, the noise is only going to continue to get louder.
