The Atlanta Falcons are close to seeing the return of one of their most important defenders.

The Atlanta Falcons are on a hot streak right now, playing very well both on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball to get two straight wins after falling in an 0-2 hole.

Now, it's a Sunday Night opportunity at home this week where the Falcons will try to get to 3-2 as the Baltimore Ravens arrive to town and give Atlanta the chance to potentially face a backup quarterback. If the Falcons can keep on winning some ball games over the next month, they will have some major reinforcements to add in the way of one of their best players.

This week, James Pearce Jr. -- who is suspended for eight games due to his arrest last February -- returned to the building and is allowed to a select number of activities now that he has served half of his ban. While Pearce did decline the chance to speak to media, he did say he eventually would do that, and he gets the chance to start to ease his way back in over the next month.

Pearce Has Select List of Things He Can Do with Team

Pearce can have on-site rehabilitation and treatment with medical and athletic training staff as well as utilize other team resources such as mental health consultants, the team chaplain and treating clinicians. Interestingly, he is also allowed to attend team meetings as well as meeting individually with the head coach, coordinator and position coach.

As for strength and conditioning, he is allowed to workout individually with that staff in that department as well as eat in the team cafeteria and a few other individual activities.

Needless to say, Pearce is still very restricted on what all he is able to do, however it seems the team is slowly bringing him along to make sure he is in fact ready when eligible to return. The Falcons pass rush has been a whole lot more effective without Pearce than anyone expected it to be, however a player like him has the potential to take things to the next level.

Inserting him into a unit in the second half of the season which is already producing has the chance to make it the best in football. Pearce clearly has a few checkmarks he has to hit before making that happen, but it seems like he is doing what the team asks for him as he serves his suspension and Atlanta is going to put him back on the field here sooner rather than later with four weeks left.
