The Atlanta Falcons may have found a gem in this player.

The Atlanta Falcons are moving closer towards the regular season with training camp flying by and a preseason game now under the team's belt.

This is the time of year when not only do stars dust off the rust and get ready for the year, but perhaps more importantly, players who are not established show the coaching staff what it is they are capable of bringing the team. Spots are always going to be up for grabs, and this year is no different.

While the offense line is not a weakness for this team, right tackle was a huge question coming into camp and someone had to step up. That seems to be happening right now with seventh round rookie Ethan Onianwa getting a ton of hype over the last week as he has started to take first team reps.

Onianwa is no longer battling for a roster spot, but potentially a starting role at right tackle when Week 1 comes along. He says a lot of the success he's had in camp has been due to having great veteran teammates around him.

Onianwa Leaning on Falcons Teammates to Guide Him

"The biggest thing was just watching how they're professionals," Onianwa told Falcons.com on watching the guys around him.. "Always on top of their routines, pre-practice, post-practice, before they go to bed. I've loved talking to them about football, hearing their experiences, and it's really opened my eyes to the game. It's like I'm seeing all this new stuff, like 'Star Wars' out there. They've been great resources that have really helped slow the game down for me."

Talent was not the question for someone like Onianwa after coming out of one of the top programs in college football at Ohio State, but asking a seventh round rookie to take on a starting tackle role is always going to be a lofty goal.

By the sounds of it though, Onianwa is doing all the right things not only on the field, but off the field as a professional as well and making the transition from a college player to the NFL. This is always the biggest question of any rookie, let alone one who was not drafted highly.

He still has a ton of work to do over the coming weeks if he wants to hold off veterans around him for the starting job, but the way things are going right now, Onianwa may very well be the starting right tackle in Week 1 for Atlanta.

Should he continue to develop and do the things he needs to do in order to get better before the season actually starts, the risk for the Falcons could pay off in a big way with an extreme value coming from a seventh round pick.
