The Atlanta Falcons are a complete mess on offense right now.
The Atlanta Falcons are hoping to turn things around quickly over the coming week coming off an 0-2 start which has been about as bad as possible to begin the Kevin Stefanski era.
Following the Week 1 road defeat against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Week 2 presented an absolute obliteration at the hands of the division rival Carolina Panthers in the home opener, getting blitzed 34-3 in their own building. Stefanski cannot be entirely blamed due to the quarterback situation and a clear inability to get it done from both Cooper Rush and Jack Strand, however things are pretty bleak in Atlanta right now.
Michael Penix Jr. may return this week, but if he does not, it may be hopeless on Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers in primetime. One stat reveals just how poor things are with the ball in the hands of the Falcons over the first two weeks.
Almost incredibly, Atlanta has not taken one offensive snap in the red zone through the first two weeks of the season.
Falcons Have Not Ran One Play in Red Zone Yet This Season
It's almost difficult to even comprehend, but Atlanta has not been able to find the red zone even just for one second and one play yet through the first two weeks. At the NFL level, that means they simply are not fielding an offense that can compete with anyone it faces right now given what the quarterback situation is.
It's of course early in the Stefanski era and he deserves some patience with fans while handling an unprecedented quarterback situation, but right now, this team is not putting a product on the field that is even worth spending time watching, let alone spending time and money to actually attend games.
It's also a bit troubling for even when Penix does return. Is he really capable of taking this offense from completely non-competitive to effective and able to help this team win games?
Soon, we will find out and get a real idea as to what this team is capable of, but even with the quarterback situation factored into evaluations, it does not look good for fans who hope to see this team compete for the playoffs in 2026.
Regardless, the Falcons are desperate for Penix to return, and until he does, this team is not going to be playing the kind of football that deserves to be watched by fans.
