The Atlanta Falcons still have plenty of questions following a disappointing preseason opener. The Falcons Roundtable discusses concerns surrounding Tua Tagovailoa, the addition of veteran pass rusher Za’Darius Smith, Kendal Daniels’ impressive debut and the biggest position battles to watch against

The Atlanta Falcons didn't have the best preseason opener this past week, and many questions still surround the team as it looks to make the playoffs for the first time in nearly 10 years.

On this week's Falcons Roundtable, the staff discusses the roster's current state and what still needs to be done.

Are we overreacting regarding Tua's performance in the preseason?

Michael Brauner: I don't think so. The fumble can be thrown out, and even so, he didn't look comfortable at all throwing the ball, and he looked the way he did at the end of his Miami Dolphins tenure. Until Michael Penix is ready, this team may have major QB issues.

Christian Rauh: There is a reason Tua Tagovailoa didn't work out in Miami, and obviously the injury concerns don't help the narrative as well. However, one preseason game in a brand-new scheme still might be a slight overreaction. Unfortunately, he will be out this week, which makes his recent performance linger longer.

Za'Darius Smith is a major addition this late into training camp. How will he help?

Michael Brauner: Smith may not be the player he was five years ago, but he is a veteran pass rusher who has produced nicely when he's been on the field the last two seasons. He will add some firepower until James Pearce Jr. returns.

Christian Rauh: Depth is a valid concern for the Falcons defensive front, so I like the addition. It's a high salary for a veteran who is obviously regressed; however, it's only a one-year deal. If he takes a step back from his performance a few seasons ago, this will be huge for Atlanta.

Biggest Breakout or surprise from last week's preseason opener?

Michael Brauner: Kendal Daniels looks like a legit Pro Bowl-level linebacker. The fourth-round pick has had a big camp and could be in for a huge role on this defense.

Christian Rauh: Couldn't agree more. Daniels has the ability to be something great for the Falcons defense.

Biggest question to still hash out entering Saturday's game in Indianapolis?

Michael Brauner: I find it odd that the first team offense is not scheduled to play. They should be getting every rep possible, and even though practice is more important, a series or two could still go a long way.

Christian Rauh: Since quarterback can't be evaluated, how about everything else. I'll be focusing most on the offensive line and defensive line battles. It's always the hardest thing to get right when a new coach takes over. The depth here on both sides is extremely important.
