The Atlanta Falcons have two secret weapon.
The Atlanta Falcons are ripping through training camp and getting closer to the season, now having taken the field for a preseason game and being able to give fans the first look at this year's edition of the team.
As camp rages on and position battles start to work themselves out, the coaching staff is giving a clear glimpse into what the plan is with most groups on both sides of the ball with guys separating themselves.
Much of the attention from the fanbase is always going to be on the offensive end, but it's defense where things are getting really interesting with two rookies potentially making a massive impact at one position so far.
Kendal Daniels and Harold Perkins Jr. -- both rookies who were later round selections in the draft last April -- are seeing a ton of first team reps and could be in line to potentially see some serious snaps in their first year with Atlanta.
Falcons Giving Serious Reps to Kendal Daniels and Harold Perkins Jr.
Daniels was a fourth round selection while Perkins went all the way in the sixth round, but that has not stopped them from coming in and impressing the coaching staff in their first respective camps. Daniels was a key piece of one of the best defenses in the sport last year at Oklahoma while Perkins was once seen as a future surefire first round selection early in his career at LSU.
Positional issues and injuries derailed that for Perkins, but he is showing early on the talent is still in there. He is versatile enough to play both off the edge as well as in a more off ball role, and it seems Atlanta values that versatility.
Daniels is more of a traditional linebacker, a position the Falcons are not all that deep at especially with Divine Deablo dealing with a minor injury in the first half of training camp. It seems he is going to have a chance at some serious playing time right out of the gate to start his NFL career.
Both guys are going to have to continue to prove they are ready for a more significant workload, but as they continue to progress and show out in the preseason as well as practice for the next couple weeks, it seems like each has a chance to carve out a real role.
Though it may not have been expected at the time of the draft, both guys could have a serious impact on the defense this year.
