The Atlanta Falcons are in a really interesting situation heading into the 2026 season. With brand-new coach Kevin Stefanski taking the helm and two quarterbacks battling for the starting role, the team has a really good chance of ending its playoff drought, one that's been ongoing since the 2017 season.
But as they look to get back to the postseason, one thing can always be improved: adding more key weapons to the Atlanta Falcons' offense. As the team obviously has to prioritize extending star wide receiver Drake London, adding more to the wide receiver room to help build the supporting cast would be ideal to ensure the Falcons' offense fires on all cylinders.
Three names come to mind at the wide receiver position that Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons front office should consider adding before the season begins.
1. Trade for Cowboys receiver George Pickens.
This one may be the most unrealistic, but it's at number one because it would certainly change the dynamic of the Falcons wide receiver room heading into the new season. Pickens, who's expected to play the 2026 NFL season under a $27 million franchise tag for the Cowboys, seems to be ready to move on from his current team, as Pickens has expressed multiple times that he wants a new deal. The Dallas Cowboys have stood still and expect him to be in uniform for the NFC East team. If he was to be moved, which did not happen despite initial trade chatter that occurred during the 2026 NFL draft, it would likely require a top-to-mid-level draft pick for compensation. You then would have to worry about assigning him to a potential extension and dealing with salary cap concerns heading into the year. This would easily make the Falcons' wide receiver room one of the best in the NFC, with Pickens and London on both sides of the football, but financially, it is highly unlikely.
2. Trade for New England Patriots receiver Kayshon Boutte.
A more realistic trade that could help develop the Atlanta Falcons' receiving corps is trading for Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte.
With the pending speculation that the Patriots will trade for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, Boutte seems like the odd man out and could be moved for as little as a fifth- or sixth-round draft pick in next year's NFL draft.
Boutte is coming off two productive years for the Patriots, where he had 76 receptions for over 1,100 yards and nine touchdowns across the last two seasons. As he heads into the final year of his rookie contract, a looming extension would also be on the minds. For the Falcons, if they were to trade for Boutte, he would currently cost only $3.6 million for the upcoming season.
3. Sign veteran free agent Stefon Diggs.
An interesting veteran wide receiver still on the free-agent market is Stefon Diggs. Diggs, who spent three seasons in Buffalo helping groom Josh Allen into MVP form and helped Drake May in a New England Patriots last season take a step forward in production, would be an interesting addition to the Falcons wide receiver room as they look to get the next jump from quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
Diggs could potentially battle for wide receiver, too, with Jahan Dotson on the Falcons' current depth chart, and could also serve as a veteran or mentor presence in the wide receiver room for recently drafted Zachariah Branch.
