With a young Dallas Cowboys coaching staff, could the team use a more experienced member on the staff?

In the first year under head coach Brian Schottenheimer, the Dallas Cowboys certainly had flashes and success on one side of the ball. Schottenheimer and offensive coordinator Klayton Adams both performed considerably well as they head into their second season, and that success gives some reason to feel confident in this latest assembled staff. Namely, regarding new defensive coordinator Christian Parker, who will look to fix that flailing side of the ball from last season. Parker has had several stops in the NFL, including on the Philadelphia Eagles staff when they won the Super. Bowl. There’s certainly reason to have optimism behind Parker and this staff under Schottenheimer. Equally, however, there’s a noticeable sense of youth, with Schottenheimer being 52, Adams 42, and Parker merely 34-years-old with a lot of his staff younger than him.

There is an argument for bringing on some more experience and age onto the defensive coaching staff, especially when looking to fix that unit from an underperforming 2025. Looking back at the Mike McCarthy era in Dallas, he gave somewhat of a blueprint for that idea, first hiring Ben McAdoo and – later – Schottenheimer. Clearly, that strategy proved to be successful for the Cowboys, bringing in experienced coaches to consult with no exotic roles or titles. Could that be the move for Dallas with a former 74-year-old head coach who was recently fired?

Here is the full story from Cowboys Roundtable writer Mike Fisher making the argument to hire a former Seattle Seahawks great mind.

Could the Cowboys call Pete Carroll? It didn’t work out in Las Vegas, but the former college national champion and Super Bowl-winning coach would bring considerable pedigree to the defensive staff in a consultant role. Dallas should certainly make the preliminary call if nothing else.
