The Yulee native prepares to face his childhood team on Thursday Night Football, bringing a storied rivalry and a legacy of hometown philanthropy to this high-stakes AFC showdown.

The Jacksonville Jaguars go on the road to face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9.

The Thursday Night Football game figures to be a battle between two AFC powerhouses who have very high expectations for the upcoming season. The matchup looks like one of the best, and most consequential, of the NFL season, with playoff implications on the line.

Count Ravens' star running back Derrick Henry among those excited for the primetime game.

Jaguars Are Henry's Hometown Team

Henry grew up in Yulee, FL, about 25 miles north of Jacksonville. The Jaguars are his hometown team, and the future Hall of Famer always looks forward to the matchup, no matter how many times he has played against Jacksonville.

Henry, of course, spent the first eight seasons of his illustrious career with the Tennessee Titans, one of Jacksonville's division rivals. The Jaguars have squared off against Henry 15 times in total, with the RB having rushed a total of 289 times for 1564 yards and 16 touchdowns against Jacksonville.

Now, Henry can continue his rivalry with the Jags as a member of the Ravens and is looking forward to the TNF tilt. He expressed his feelings about the game on Saturday while hosting his annual Two All Foundation community day in Yulee.

"Definitely excited, man. I was telling my people, I was like, my family, I wish it was here. I could come back home and play, but we still get to play the hometown team. It's always fun playing them. Team I grew up watching, admiring. You know, I've been playing against them for a couple years, being in Tennessee, being a division rival. So, it's always cool playing Jacksonville."

Henry Hasn't Forgotten His Roots

No matter how big a star Henry has become, he hasn't forgotten his roots. The five-time Pro Bowler still gives back to the community that raised him. This year, his foundation rewarded Yulee graduate Joshua Barnes with a $10,000 college scholarship. Henry said he wants this to be the first of many college scholarships he delivers for students in Yulee.

"You can always do more," he said. "God has blessed me tremendously, and I just want to be a blessing back to someone, especially someone from my high school, where I grew up and walked through those same hallways and classrooms."

Final Thoughts

It's touching that his hometown has remained such a big part of Henry's life, even throughout his NFL career. Giving back to Yulee is important to Henry, and the people there love having him return.

"It's exciting and nerve-racking all at the same time," Barnes said. "Meeting Derrick Henry, the NFL star, he's huge. It's insane meeting him in person. But I'm glad I was chosen for the scholarship. It means a lot, and it inspires me to work harder."

Though Henry has love for the Jacksonville area, he won't let it show when his team faces the Jags in Baltimore. The game will mean a lot to both the Jaguars and Ravens, but it will mean a little bit extra to Henry.
