The Jaguars earned another victory over a quality opponent in Week 5. How did the last-second victory over the Philadelphia Eagles affect Jacksonville in ESPN's weekly NFL power rankings?

It certainly wasn't pretty, but the Jacksonville Jaguars' last-second win over the Philadelphia Eagles showed the team has plenty of heart and plenty of grit.

The Jaguars were somehow able to overcome committing 13 penalties for the second week in a row, a very pro-Eagles crowd (despite officially being the home team), questionable play-calling, and the worst game the team has played so far this season to eke out a win over another tough opponent.

With the win over the Eagles, Jacksonville has now beaten three teams that were thought to be Super Bowl contenders at the start of the season. The Jaguars handled the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals in back-to-back games before heading to London to take on Philadelphia.

Even their 34-10 domination of the Cleveland Browns in Week 1 looks considerably more impressive a month later. The Browns were expected to be one of the NFL's worst teams, but now they are 3-2 on the season.

Jacksonville proved it can still win without bringing its A-game, which is definitely not something the Jaguars want to make a habit, but it is something only really good teams can pull off.

Even though the Eagles were playing without several of their best players, including injured stars Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith, and had to overcome the sudden retirement of Hall of Fame right tackle Lane Johnson just five days before the game, they were still a quality team that shouldn't be overlooked.

It was a struggle, but the Jaguars were able to come back twice in the final three minutes, including Cam Little's 57-yard, game-winning field goal as time expired.

The Jaguars may boast the NFL's most impressive resume over the first five weeks of the season.

So, how did Jacksonville's dramatic victory affect the team's placement in ESPN's weekly NFL power rankings?

Not at all.

The Jaguars entered Week 5 ranked fifth by ESPN, and remained there this week.

Jaguars Need More From Star Edge Rushers

In this week's rankings, ESPN named each team's biggest defensive flaw so far this season. Michael DiRocco made the pick for Jacksonville and chose the lack of sacks from the Jaguars' edge rushers.

For a team whose defense has been one of the NFL's best this season, the lack of sacks from the edge rushers stands out like a sore thumb, especially considering the star power Jacksonville has with Josh-Hines Allen and Travon Walker.

DiRocco points out that since the season-opener, both Hines-Walker and Walker have struggled to get to the quarterback.

"Biggest issue on defense: Getting sacks from the edge

"It's nitpicky, considering the Jaguars are No. 1 in run defense and second in scoring defense, but they could do a better job of getting sacks from their edge rushers. Their 80 QB pressures are tied for sixth and 11 sacks rank ninth, but edge rushers Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker have only 3.5 sacks combined. They each had 1.5 sacks in the season opener against the Browns but a combined half sack since (Walker on Sunday). Both are a large part of the run defense (63.8 yards per game) by setting the edge, but their sack production needs to increase. -- Michael DiRocco"

Final Thoughts

The biggest issue with Jacksonville's pass rush was expected to come from the interior of the defensive line, not from the edge.

Both Hines-Allen and Walker have double-digit sack expectations, and the Jaguars need them to consistently make life miserable for opposing quarterbacks. When they both started the season with 1.5 sacks against Cleveland, it looked like they would dominate this year.

That hasn't been the case, and both need to do more as pass rushers.

I expect they will. Both are too talented not to be game-wreckers off the edge. Once they get going, Jacksonville's defense will be the cause of nightmares for offensive coordinators.

As for Jacksonville's spot in the rankings, they are probably right where they should be, although an argument could be made that they deserve to be above the 3-2 Seattle Seahawks.

In Week 6, the Jaguars remain in London to take on their division rival, the Houston Texans, who were a popular pick to win the AFC South over Jacksonville and even reach the Super Bowl for the first time in team history.

However, Houston has fallen flat to start the season and sits at 1-4. The Jaguars have an excellent opportunity to bury their biggest threat this week. If they do, expect them to move up another spot or two in the rankings.
