Absence from a team retreat sparked rumors of a rift, but insiders reveal the dual-threat star is actually skipping social events to master a grueling two-way workload.
Travis Hunter and Deion Sanders are at the center of another controversy, one that Colorado Insider reports is completely baseless.
The rumors stem from a recent retreat that the Buffaloes' head coach organized for his former students. His son, Shedeur Sanders, and Steelers safety Jalen Ramsey were among those in attendance.
Hunter, however, was nowhere in sight, which was all that social media needed to spin a massive narrative out of thin air.
The entire Buffaloes' social media was brimming with rumors of potential beef between Coach Prime and one of his finest crown jewels, Hunter.
That didn’t last long, as Prime’s family friend and Hunter’s representative, Boog Knight, quashed all rumors, shutting them down as entirely baseless.
“Travis could not ever have beef with Coach Prime. Travis loves Coach Prime just as much as Coach Prime loves Travis,” Knight said on "The Scoop with Dukes."
“It’s just that people got to understand, like you said, he’s an adult now. And a lot of things that got him to where he’s at, he hasn’t forgotten about; he doesn’t take it for granted, but he also knows where he’s trying to go,” he added.
Travis Hunter Poised for a Breakout Season
There have been plenty of reports surrounding Hunter giving the Jaguars offseason practise sessions and OTAs his all to make 2026 his breakout year.
Since Hunter intends to continue playing on both sides of the ball under head coach Liam Coen, he is utilizing a strict alternating schedule during offseason workouts. The dual-threat weapon spends one entire day embedded with the offensive unit, mastering Coen’s playbook, followed by a full day with the defensive backs.
And that is just half the battle for the Jaguars' No. 2 overall pick as he works his way back from a torn lateral collateral ligament (LCL) that prematurely cut his rookie campaign short last November.
“He was already a great guy. Now, you’re looking at a guy who’s giving back and pointing to someone that has his DNA. Not only is he killing it with his own, but he is also a light to the kids that come behind him, which is unmatched,” Knight explained.
As of now, the word from insiders is that Coen will be predominantly playing Hunter on defense as a cornerback, with occasional appearances as a wide receiver.
How Hunter navigates that and hones himself to truly play on both sides of the ball will decide how massive a career he puts together. It is right now that will decide how his entire future shapes up, so it is no wonder he is skipping out on a few social meetups to take care of business.
