It didn't take the Jacksonville Jaguars long to work on locking up wide receiver Jakobi Meyers.
Just six weeks after Jacksonville acquired Meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Jags and Meyers are finalizing a three-year contract extension, which will keep him in Jacksonville until the end of the 2028 season.
If Jacksonville didn't look to extend Meyers, he would have been a free agent at the end of the season.
Time will tell, but for now, it looks like Jacksonville was wise not to let that happen. Meyers has been excellent since the Jags traded a fourth-round and sixth-round 2026 Draft pick to get him.
In six games, Meyers has caught no fewer than three passes in a contest, with his best performance being six catches for 90 yards at Tennessee on the last day of November.
It didn't take Meyers long to impress his quarterback, either.
"He has done an awesome job," Trevor Lawrence said about Meyers. "The way he runs and moves, that's something I noticed right when he got here. I've seen him play a lot, too, but I like throwing to him. He's just an easy guy to throw to from a quarterback perspective."
So what does Meyers do well?
"Just the way he moves, it seems very clear what he is going to do," Lawrence said, "that's something I really like. Then, he is smart too. He has picked up the offense really quickly, for it being a pretty complicated offense and having to come in and play three, four days after getting here. And now he's played a few games with us, and he's done an awesome job."
Meyers, Lawrence and the Jags have been on fire, winning their last five games by an average of three scores.
In just a little over a month, Jacksonville has gone from a mediocre football team to a Super Bowl contender.
With last week's 48-20 win over the Jets being the most dominant performance yet, Meyers caught five passes for 71 yards. Perhaps the only downside was that it was the first time in four weeks he didn't score a touchdown.
In just six games, Meyers is already Jacksonville's fourth-leading receiver, with 355 yards. Including the seven games he spent with the Raiders, Meyers is the team's leading receiver by more than 100 yards, clocking in at 707.
Jacksonville has a big game this weekend, taking on Denver on the road at 4:05. local time.
