
The Jacksonville Jaguars cruised to their third consecutive victory Sunday as they defeated the Tennessee Titans in Nashville 25-3.
Contemporaneous with the Jaguars victory, the Indianapolis Colts lost to the Houston Texans thrusting the Jaguars into a first-place tie with the Colts for the lead in the AFC South.
The Colts will come to Duval County to face the Jaguars Sunday, Dec. 7. Indianapolis lost to the Texans 20-16 Sunday creating the logjam at the top of the standings.
Jaguars franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence tossed the ball for 229 yards and two scores. With the victory, the Jaguars are in control of their own destiny as they have two games remaining with the Colts prior to the end of the season. The Jaguars are looking for their first division title since 2022.
The win was also Jacksonville's sixth in their last seven games against the Titans, who fell to 1-11 on the season and 0-7 at Nissan Stadium. The Titans have lost 11 consecutive home games, the most since the franchise was last known as the Houston Oilers.
Cam Ward, the first-pick of last spring's NFL Draft, was sacked three times, twice by Josh Hines-Allen. The Jaguars defense also recovered two fumbles.
Lawrence got the day started on the right foot as he flipped a three-yard scoring pass to newly-acquired Jakobi Meyers which gave the Jaguars an early 7-3 lead. He then threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to tight end Brenton Strange after LeQuint Allen, Jr. forced and recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff.
Lawrence scored on a two-point conversion to give Jacksonville a commanding 15-3 lead early in the second quarter.
Meyers hauled in six receptions for 90 yards and the aforementioned touchdown. It was the first time he and Brian Thomas, Jr. were on the field at the same time. Meyers was acquired at the trade deadline, while Thomas was out with an ankle injury.
The Titans took a 3-0 lead on a Joey Slye field goal of 28 yards in the first quarter. The Titans offense was dormant since then.
Bhayshul Tuten added to the Jaguars lead when he scored on a two-yard plunge with 6:45 left to play in the third quarter. Mike Brown of the Titans kept the Jaguars drive going when he was flagged for roughing the punter on a fourth-and-20 play from inside their own 20-yard line.
Jacksonville was aided by Tennessee mistakes, as the Titans were flagged 10 times including a roughing the punter and a roughing the passer call. The Jaguars, meanwhile, saw the yellow hankie come out a season-high 13 times.
The Jaguars did not come out of the game unscathed. Long snapper Ross Matiscik hurt his back in the first quarter, but returned in the third quarter. Wide receiver Patrick Washington hurt his hip in the first half and did not return. Left tackle Walker Little did not play in the second half as he was evaluated for a potential concussion.
Former University of Miami wide receiver Xavier Restrepo suffered a right ankle injury and was carted off the field with 2:26 left for the Titans.
