Recent issues between head coaches Mike Macdonald and Sean Payton have people remembering the feud between Jacksonville HC Liam Coen and new Titans HC Robert Saleh.

This past week, another feud between NFL coaches was brought to our attention.

An interview clip of Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald was leaked. In it, Macdonald talked about a dispute he had with Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton.

Macdonald disclosed that in Week 1 of the 2024 season, his first game as Seahawks coach, Payton accused both Macdonald and the Seahawks of cheating.

The Seahawks found videos posted on the internet of Denver's plays from their training camp. The videos were taken by Broncos fans in attendance and put online where anyone could access them.

Payton was livid, thinking the Seahawks had someone attending Denver's camp to spy on his team. In response, Payton accused Macdonald of being a cheater and threatened to go public with the accusations.

Seattle, who had done nothing wrong, responded by threatening Payton and the Broncos with a lawsuit if he went public. Payton eventually backed down.

The two eventually patched things up, with Macdonald even apologizing to Payton for the interview clip being leaked.

The dispute became the most recent in a line of spats between NFL coaches over the years.

First on the list? The feud between Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen and Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh.

The Coen-Saleh Feud

The feud between the two coaches stemmed from an incident last September, when Saleh was defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.

Before the game between the teams, Saleh commented on the Jaguars having a "really advanced" system in place to steal the other team's signals, an accusation Coen did not take kindly to.

After Jacksonville beat the 49ers, Coen confronted Saleh, as The Athletic noted.

"In the days leading up to a September 2025 game between the Jags and 49ers, Saleh praised Jacksonville for having “a really advanced signal-stealing type system, where they always find a way to put themselves in an advantageous situation.” Asked a follow-up question, Saleh reiterated that he wasn’t accusing the Jags of doing anything beyond the rules, but the association was enough to catch Coen’s attention.

"After the 49ers lost to the Jags, Coen walked past Saleh to leave the field before turning around and yelling, 'Keep my name out of your mouth,' toward Saleh."

The two have apparently patched things up. At the annual league meetings this year, both coaches described the incident as "water under the bridge."

Now head coach of the Titans, Saleh and Coen will square off against each other twice a year as AFC South rivals.

Final Thoughts

Accusations of cheating are very serious. Understandably, Coen reacted the way he did.

Coen, one of the NFL's best offensive coaches and play-callers, has had a ton of success in his short time as a head coach. He led the Jaguars to a 13-4 record in his first season as Jacksonville's coach and just saw his team's nine-game regular-season winning streak come to an end in last week's road loss against the Denver Broncos.

The Jaguars and Coen will try to get a new winning streak started this Sunday when they take on the New England Patriots, themselves no stranger to accusations of cheating, this Sunday.
