Quarterback Trevor Lawrence wasted no time reminding the NFL why expectations remain high for the Jacksonville Jaguars, as they started off the season with a convincing 34-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

The 26-year-old star shined in a near-perfect performance Sunday, throwing for 245 yards and four touchdowns as Jacksonville dismantled the Browns, 34-10. Lawrence completed 18 of 23 passes and posted a career-best 150.6 passer rating, leading an offense that scored on six of its first seven possessions.

Lawrence distributed the ball all over the field. He tossed touchdowns to four different sets of hands on Sunday: Parker Washington, rookie Josh Cameron, Brenton Strange and Jakobi Meyers as Jacksonville turned a promising start into a decisive rout. The performance continues the momentum Lawrence built during the second half of 2025.

Those kinds of numbers, in terms of scoring and what his QB was able to do on the stat sheet, are special to Jacksonville head Coach Liam Coen. He knows his team will only go so far as their offensive leader can guide them.

"I think that the guys came out and tried to do what we asked them to do in terms of starting fast, play some complementary football, which I also was harping on, taking advantage of obviously the opportunities that we had with some of the turnovers," Coen told the media on Monday, according to the Florida Times-Union. "[It] wasn't perfect by any means. But a lot to clean up and coach off of. Some technique and a couple of things that we need to continue to to work on and coach on. But I was pleased with their energy, the way that they executed some situations, and jumped out to a fast start."

For Trevor Lawrence to start the year the way he did, setting a tone for success, he made a statement about the season. He may have rested often and taken it easy in training camp as the starting quarterback and franchise player, but Coen says Lawrence has put in the work to look as sharp as he did. 

"That's impressive, to be off schedule and play creatively when it it is very challenging in the preseason, in training camp because you just don't get so many reps at that. The whistle blows quicker in training camp, as you know, and he's sitting there in a red jersey every day."

"And so it was great to see him be able to play off schedule, extend plays," Coen continued. "[That] was such a weapon for us towards the back half of last year. I know the wideouts love it because it continues to allow them opportunities to make plays down the field, the offensive line really appreciates it because now he's moving off his spot, not just standing there like a statue, and allowing them to tee off on him."

The Jaguars will travel to the Mile High City this week for a showdown with the Denver Broncos, who play their first game of the year tonight in the opening edition of Monday Night Football. The Orange & Blue take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead before trying to tame the Jags in Week 2.
