Jaguars will relocate for 2027 season as EverBank Stadium undergoes $1.4B renovations, with Orlando favored over Gainesville, pending NFL owner approval vote.
The Jacksonville Jaguars' "home" stadium for the 2027 season will be put to a vote Tuesday as NFL owners and executives are gathering in Phoenix this week for their annual meeting.
The team cut the ribbon on March 27 on its new headquarters, the 75,287-square-foot business offices on the second through fourth floors at One Tower Court in Jacksonville.
As the $1.4 billion renovations continue at EverBank Stadium, the Jaguars announced on Feb. 25 the team would remain at their own stadium for the 2026 season amidst construction of what team officials are calling the Stadium of the Future.
Fans who had raised concerns about the team spending two seasons away from Jacksonville won a partial victory: only the 2027 season will be played entirely on the road.
Just where on the road is what will be up for a vote Tuesday at the NFL's annual league meeting. NFL owners and front offices are expected to address a range of topics, including adding another international games (in Australia) to the schedule as well as the impending referee labor crisis, at the meeting, which kicked off Sunday.
Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, has been speculated as the Jaguars' destination for the 2027 season, as their stadium renovations are expected to be completed in August 2028.
The upgrades to EverBank Stadium will include a reflective roof that covers 90 percent of seating, renovated concourses and technological improvements throughout.
According to reports, Orange County has put together a proposal with $11 million in incentives to bring the Jaguars to Orlando for 2027. Orlando and Orange County business and political leaders have estimated the temporary move could generate $160 million in economic impact for the area.
Although Camping World has been the perceived front runner, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville was also named as a finalist. Camping World holds more than 60,000 and has been home to the Citrus Bowl, Cure Bowl and Pop-Tarts Bowl. Camping World also served as the UCF Knights' home from 1979-2006 and has hosted the NFL’s Pro Bowl five times.
Affectionately known as "The Swamp," Griffin Stadium holds more than 80,000 and is home to the Florida Gators.
For whichever site, NFL owners must have 75-percent approval for the Jaguars to move.
EverBank Stadium opened in 1995 and along with being the home of the Jaguars, the stadium has served as the venue for the annual rivalry game between Florida and the Georgia Bulldogs. During the renovations the Gators and Bulldogs will move their game to Atlanta for this season and will then play in Tampa in 2027.
Also during renovations, EverBank will see its capacity reduced to 42,507 seats during the 2026 season as the upper bowl and 400-level sections will be closed to fans. An estimated 27,630 seats will be out of commission.
Once the renovations are complete, capacity will increase to about 62,000, with potential expansion to 72,000 for special events.
Since their inaugural season in 1995, the Jaguars are 129-122 (.514 winning percentage) in the regular season and 3-1 at home all-time in the NFL playoffs.
Playing at neutral sites has become more common for the Jaguars as the team has played in London a league-high 14 times and will play two "home" games in England this season. The 2027 season will mark the first time Jacksonville will play outside of Duval County within the U.S.
