Healthy and fueled by continuity, the MVP finalist is refining scheme details to elevate Jacksonville’s attack after moving past last season’s early struggles to chase perfection.
Trevor Lawrence entered the Jacksonville Jaguars' OTAs this year fully healthy for the first time since the 2022 season.
Now entering his sixth season, not only does the star quarterback have the benefit of a full offseason program to prepare for the upcoming season, but he also doesn't have to learn a new offense or adjust to a new coaching staff.
Heading into his second season with both head coach Liam Coen and offensive coordinator Grant Udinski, Lawrence has now set his sights on mastering the current offense.
"We can focus on talking about all the details of each route and how it's going to adjust versus certain coverages and then also making tweaks to the concepts and to the plays that we already have in. We've had a handful of things where we've changed them from last year because running them a full season and seeing what we like., it's like ok, this would be better to add on the backside than what we were running," Lawrence said.
Being able to focus on such specific details is only possible when a QB is trying to perfect an offense instead of learning one.
Lawrence Has Put Last Season Behind Him
Despite a career-best year in 2025, Lawrence has firmly put last season behind him. Reported by Demetrius Harvey, Lawrence said of last season,
"I don't really think about last year anymore. It's gone." He added that the team's early-season struggles last year prove the offense is still far from perfect and needs work.
Lawrence acknowledges that the offense needs to put together a full season of success in order to reach the goals the team has in 2026.
"That's the challenge is doing it every week and just excited for that opportunity," Lawrence said.
Outlook For 2026 Season
Having their star QB so focused on the minor details of the offense poses a great outlook for the 2026 season. Lawrence is approaching the upcoming year with the confidence he showed to finish 2025, and is now looking to build upon that success.
HC Coen also expects his QB to take his play to another level. Coen is confident that Lawrence will pick up right where he left off.
"When we get out on the grass, the expectation is he is kind of playing at the level in which he was towards the end of the season," Coen said back on Day 1 of the offseason program. "The expectation is that, 'Hey, we pick up there and let's roll.'"
Lawrence finished the 2025 season as an MVP finalist, finishing 5th. With a full offseason to get ready for this year, expectations for him are higher than they have ever been before.
Hearing Lawrence speak about the benefit of not having to learn a new offense, and being able to perfect the small details of the offense, shows that Lawrence is up to the challenge. The Jaguars' offense, with Lawrence at the helm, has a chance to be special in 2026.
