Jacksonville bolsters a depleted front line by adding veteran tackle Geron Christian, providing crucial depth and experience as training camp injuries continue to reshape the Jaguars' roster.
Training camp has become an offensive-line carousel for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who signed Geron Christian and moved Garrett DiGorgio to the reserve/injured list.
Christian is the second offensive lineman signed in the past week. Sam Mustipher was a mid-week addition following Trysten Colon's placement on the reserve/retired list.
Jacksonville's new addition primarily plays left tackle, a position that needs depth as starter Cole Van Lanen is on the PUP list. The team has experimented with starting right tackle Anton Harrison on the opposite side, and has said it's "like riding a bike."
The former 2018 third-round pick by the Washington Commanders offers starting experience.
He was promoted to starter in the 2020 season after his predecessor, Trent Williams, was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in the offseason. Washington chose not to re-sign Donald Penn, as well.
The former Commander made six starts before sustaining a knee injury in Week 6 against the New York Giants. Washington placed him on the reserve/injured list after missing three games, then waived him on May 20, 2021.
The Houston Texans claimed Christian off waivers. They were the first team to give him an opportunity, as he started eight games for them.
Houston didn't re-sign him in the 2022 offseason, leading him to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs used him as a rotational lineman, playing 10 games before not retaining him in free agency.
Christian and Houston reunited in 2023, but he was released in October. The Cleveland Browns signed him to their practice squad within the month, then promoted him to the active roster in November.
Cleveland was his second-best landing spot. Christian made nine starts, blocking for Joe Flacco, who led the franchise to a Wild Card appearance.
It was his last real opportunity as a starter.
