Bleacher Report has Jacksonville using its first-round pick to bolster the defensive line in an early 2027 mock draft.
The Jacksonville Jaguars may be opening their 2026 season against the Cleveland Browns tomorrow, but it's never too early to look ahead.
Despite having a strong roster full of top-end talent, there are some question marks about the team heading into the season.
One of those question marks is whether the interior defensive line will be good enough.
Right now, Jacksonville has DaVon Hamilton and Arik Armstead listed as starters, with Matt Dickerson, third-round rookie Albert Regis, and Ruke Orhorhoro as the backups.
Hamilton is the big man in the middle. At 6'4 and 335 pounds, he is a people-mover and space eater who does the dirty work so the guys around him can make plays. However, he will turn 30 in February and doesn't provide much juice as a pass rusher.
Defensive tackle Arik Armstead recorded 5.5 sacks a year ago, but his contract is up after this season. He was thought to be a possible cap casualty this season, though he ended up staying.
Dickerson is a solid reserve, but Regis is a rookie who, like Hamilton, isn't known for his pass-rushing skills. Orhorhoro came over in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons this offseason as a 2024 second-round pick looking for a fresh start after underwhelming in his first two years.
The group has untapped potential. But for a team with Super Bowl hopes like the Jaguars, it does stand out as a possible weakness.
Which is why Bleacher Report has Jacksonville taking Oklahoma interior defensive lineman David Stone in its early 2027 mock draft.
Raw But Projectable Prospect
Stone won't turn 21 until November. He only had two career starts in college before this season, making him a very raw but projectable prospect.
Bleacher Report believes Jacksonville will be intrigued by Stone's high ceiling and impressive physical traits.
"Team Fit: The Jacksonville Jaguars are set on the edges with Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker. The same can't be said about the defensive interior. Arik Armstead and DaVon Hamilton are both free agents after this season. Oklahoma's David Stone has a high ceiling with enough potential to create an instant impact.
"Scout's Take: Stone doesn't have the experience scouts typically like to see, with only two career starts before this season. However, his traits will be difficult to match with his strength, athleticism and near 35-inch arms. Stone is already a good run-defender and shows the movement skills to develop as a pass-rusher."
It is Stone's potential to develop into a capable pass rusher that should attract the Jaguars to him. Right now, Armstead is their only interior lineman who can consistently get to the quarterback, but this is likely his final season in Jacksonville.
Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker give the Jaguars a fierce pass-rushing duo off the edge. Having someone who can also create pressure from the interior would give the defense a major boost.
Final Thoughts
The fact that Bleacher Report has Jacksonville picking 15th is a conversation for a different day.
That aside, Stone would be a welcome addition to the Jaguars' defensive line. If he has a big year for Oklahoma, he could definitely hear his name called in the middle of the first round next year.
Hopefully, that's not where Jacksonville will be picking in 2027.
Stone is certainly a college player the organization and Jaguars' fans should be paying close attention to this season.
