Despite a stunning nine-win turnaround and Trevor Lawrence’s MVP-caliber season, Jacksonville's Liam Coen was surprisingly snubbed from Bleacher Report’s latest power rankings of elite NFL head coaches.

Jacksonville Jaguars' head coach Liam Coen did a remarkable job in his first season.

Under his guidance, the Jaguars finished the season at 13-4, a nine-win improvement over the previous season. The team ended the regular season by winning eight straight games, securing the AFC South division title. Trevor Lawrence took a huge step forward, becoming an MVP finalist for the first time in his career.

Coen also did an excellent job assembling his coaching staff. Both offensive coordinator Grant Udinski and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile were interviewed for multiple head coaching vacancies before returning to Jacksonville. They are both expected to become head coaches sooner rather than later.

What Coen accomplished in only one year, both in changing the franchise's culture and winning games, established himself as one of the brightest young minds and best head coaches in the NFL.

Someone must not have been paying attention.

Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report just made his NFL head coach power rankings. Davenport ranked his 10 best coaches in the NFL. Shockingly, Coach Coen was nowhere to be found.

The Rankings

The top of Davenport's rankings included the usual suspects. Los Angeles Rams' HC Sean McVay was in the top spot. Behind him were Andy Reid and Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers. Rounding out the top-5 were Mike Macdonald and Denver Broncos' leader Sean Payton.

Nick Sirianni of the Philadelphia Eagles came in sixth, followed by Mike Vrabel, Jim Harbaugh, Dan Campbell, and DeMeco Ryans.

Questionable Rankings

While each of those 10 coaches have solid arguments to be on the list, ranking a few of them ahead of Coen seems questionable, at best.

Reid's Kansas City Chiefs and Campbell's Detroit Lions entered last season with Super Bowl aspirations. Both teams missed the playoffs entirely.

Under Sirianni, the Eagles' season was full of dysfunction, with the A.J. Brown drama hanging over the team all year. When the 49ers beat the Eagles in the first round of the playoffs, it felt like a team being put out of its misery. Only trading Brown to the New England Patriots allowed Philly to move forward.

Coen easily could have been ranked higher than those three coaches.

It was also strange to see Macdonald, who led the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory in his first year as coach, be ranked third in his own division.

Ryans did a fantastic job with the Houston Texans. His team won nine consecutive games to end the regular season before winning a road playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Texans enter the 2026 season as popular picks to make their first-ever Super Bowl.

Final Thoughts

Usually the NFL world overreacts to the smallest bit of success (or disappointment). However, it seems like Coen and the Jaguars racing past all expectations is being completely dismissed.

Coen did a great job in his lone season as a head coach. While all of the coaches ranked in Davenport's top-10 have a solid overall resume, it was surprising to see Coen left out.

Another year of leading Jacksonville to the playoffs should see Coen firmly entrenched in the top-10 (or higher) of all coach rankings at this time next year.

For now, Coen and the Jaguars can use this slight to give them a little extra motivation.
