After months of trade speculation about a blockbuster Eagles deal, the Jaguars' receiver reveals how the organization’s unwavering faith fueled his confidence for a bounce-back season.
It has been a whirlwind offseason for Jacksonville Jaguars' WR Brian Thomas Jr.
After a subpar season in 2025, BTJ was the subject of nonstop trade rumors for months. Despite the Jaguars remaining adamant that they would not trade their ultra-talented receiver, the rumors wouldn't die.
The rumor that may have had the most speculation, BTJ being included in a trade for Philadelphia Eagles star WR A.J. Brown, was finally put to rest on Monday. The Eagles traded Brown to the New England Patriots for two high draft picks.
Through it all, Thomas Jr. remained professional, even though it was nearly impossible not to be affected by the persistent rumors. On Monday, BTJ spoke about how he handled the whole situation and what it means to him that the Jaguars didn't give up on him.
BTJ Says Jags' Faith In Him Gives Him Confidence
Speaking with reporters after OTA practice on Monday, Thomas Jr. said the team's faith in him gives him confidence. Even after a poor season, BTJ knows what he has to offer the Jaguars, and is determined to put 2025 behind him.
"It gives me the confidence they still have faith in me and still know what I can do and what I can bring to the table."
Thomas also stressed that he tried not to focus on any of the outside noise and noted that other players deal with the same thing.
High Expectations For 2026 Season
The expectations for BTJ are very high for the 2026 season. ESPN's Dan Orlovsky went as far as to say Thomas Jr. could be just as important to the Jaguars as QB Trevor Lawrence. BTJ started OTAs last week and was looking like his old self. If he can return to his rookie season form, the Jaguars' offense can be one of the most potent in the entire AFC.
Both HC Liam Coen and GM James Gladstone are confident that Thomas Jr.'s 2025 season was a fluke, and the real BTJ is the 2024 edition.
Knowing that he still has the support, confidence, and trust from the entire Jacksonville organization should allow BTJ to just be himself on the field and trust that his talent will shine through.
The Jaguars need BTJ to be at his best in 2026, and the receiver can rest easy knowing his team still believes in him.
