Quarterback Trevor Lawrence emphasizes OTAs build fundamentals and team bonds for the Jacksonville Jaguars next season.
Trevor Lawrence is focused on deepening team chemistry as the Jacksonville Jaguars began offseason training Monday.
The Jags starting quarterback said now is the best time for Jacksonville to build on its fundamentals.
"That's the best time, I think, to have that structure in practice," Lawrence told reporters following team workouts Monday. "Where it's all about fundamentals, technique, as far as all the stuff that we can control on offense, the operation, making sure we're clean, operating quickly, and doing all that stuff at the line of scrimmage."
Lawrence's focus at the line of scrimmage is about fine-tuning and adding more details to iron out all the details in the offensive scheme.
He added that he feels like the team is farther along in that process due to the carryover from last year's roster.
Barring receiver Jakobi Meyers, who became a Jaguar last November, and Chris Rodriguez Jr., who signed in March, most of Jacksonville's offense has been with the team for one full season under coach Liam Coen.
While OTAs present the Jaguars with the opportunity to strengthen their fundamentals, they also give everyone on the team more opportunities to bond.
Lawrence highlighted Meyers, who played nine games for Jacksonville, quickly becoming one of the Jaguars' top receivers after Travis Hunter suffered a season-ending injury.
Meyers signed a three-year, $60 million contract extension with the team on Dec. 19. With $40 million in guaranteed money, he is locked up through the 2028 season.
On Monday, Lawrence said Meyers now has the opportunity to spend more time with his teammates.
"He was really easy to get in sync with, and he was a super hard worker, so we got it going pretty quickly, but that can be hard to do," Lawrence said. "So now to have a full offseason together, and I think the relationship piece is to be able to hang out with his teammates and get to spend time together."
Jacksonville's franchise quarterback also has a head start in this year's offseason as opposed to last year. Lawrence suffered an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder in the 2024 season, and he underwent season-ending surgery in December.
He said it was better not spending time to rehab and focus on returning to normal this offseason, as he started training in February, several weeks after the season ended.
"There's a lot of clips where I know I can improve and get better, you know, I'd say just the consistency piece of it," Lawrence said.
As OTAs began for the Jaguars, they are using every opportunity to deepen team chemistry and strengthen the fundamentals to improve in Year 2 of the Liam Coen-James Gladstone era.
