Coming off their first regular-season loss in over 10 months, the Jacksonville Jaguars responded in a big way.

The Jaguars and quarterback Trevor Lawrence made a huge statement by dominating the defending AFC champion New England Patriots 35-6 on Sunday at EverBank Stadium.

Both the offense and the defense got their groove back in an absolute thrashing of the Patriots. 

After last week's tough loss to the Denver Broncos, there were questions about how Jacksonville would respond after the team's first regular-season loss since about midway through last season.

Almost flawlessly.

Lawrence was 19-for-29 for 182 yards. He threw touchdown passes to Parker Washington, Josh Cameron, and Jakobi Meyers. Lawrence also threw one interception in a very composed, methodical performance.

Travis Hunter recorded his first career interception, picking off a Drake Maye in the back of the end zone.

I gave my keys to a Jacksonville victory over the weekend, and the Jaguars checked off each box one by one.

The first was to keep Hunter on the field. After his lack of usage over the first two games created an uproar, the Jaguars finally used Hunter like a CB1. He responded with his leaping pick of Maye before the outcome was decided.

Next was to feed Bhayshul Tuten. The second-year running has looked great this season and I thought Jacksonville should learn on him more against the Patriots. I said 20+ touches should be the goal.

Tuten came close, rushing 15 times for 73 yards and a touchdown. He added a pair of catches for 17 yards, and continues to excel in his new role as lead back.

The Jaguars also needed to re-establish their pass rush after recording zero sacks against Denver last week. 

Mission accomplished. Jacksonville was able to bring Maye down three times on the afternoon.

I also said the Jaguars' wide receivers would need to win their matchups against Patriots' star cornerback Christian Gonzalez. While nobody had a dominating effort, Lawrence was able to hit seven different pass catchers, with Meyers leading the way with seven grabs for 64 yards.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I said Jacksonville would need to win the turnover battle. They did just that, picking off Maye twice and also recovering one of two fumbles from the young star quarterback.

The Jaguars got three takeaways on Sunday and only turned it over once.

The Jaguars put an absolute beatdown on the defending conference champions on Sunday.

This was a game where Jacksonville got to show the rest of the NFL what it is made of. Head coach Liam Coen couldn't have asked for a better response from his team than what he got on Sunday.

The Jaguars were able to shake off a depressing loss in which they blew a double-digit second-half lead. That is a huge step for any team trying to go from good to great.

Jacksonville has another tough opponent on the docket next week when they travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals before back-to-back "home games in London.
