Quarterback Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams won the NFL MVP award on Thursday night, beating out Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, 2024 MVP and Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen; Super Bowl LX contender and New England Patriots QB Drake Maye; and San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey.
McCaffrey was named Comeback Player of the Year for the 2025 season on Thursday at the NFL Honors ceremony at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.
McCaffrey, introduced by his dad, three-time Super Bowl champion receiver, also was named the NFL’s 15th annual Salute to Service Award winner.
It was the second major NFL award of Stafford's career, after he was named Comeback Player of the Year in 2011, when he played for the Detroit Lions.
Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was among the five finalists for the award, along with McCaffrey, receiver Stefon Diggs; Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson; and Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott.

(Kirby Lee/Imagn Images)Jaguars coach Liam Coen, in his first year in Jacksonville, was among five finalists for Coach of the Year, but it was Pats first-year coach Mike Vrabel, who didn't attend Thursday's awards show, who won the COY honor.
Other finalists included the Niners' Kyle Shanahan; Ben Johnson of the Chicago Bears; and the Seattle Seahawks' Mike Macdonald.
Lawrence, who this past season joined the ranks of the NFL's elite quarterbacks, is a finalist for both the Most Valuable Player and Comeback Player of the Year.
No one from the Jaguars has ever won Coach of the Year, Most Valuable Player, or Comeback Player of the Year awards.
The newest Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026 were announced Thursday night. The former players include Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Kuechly, Adam Vinatieri, Roger Craig and Drew Brees.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft and former Pats coach Bill Belichick did not make the finalist list for the latter category and will not be outfitted for a gold jacket in their first year on the ballot. Also among the reported snubs is former Giants quarterback and two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, who didn't receive enough votes for the second year in a row.
The Class of 2026 inductees will be enshrined in Canton in August.
The first honor awarded to open the NFL Honors ceremony was for the Offensive Rookie of the Year, awarded to Carolina Panthers receiver Tetairoa McMillan, who beat out Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Emeka Egbuka, Patriots tailback TreVeyon Henderson, New Orleans Saints QB Tyler Shough, and QB Jaxson Dart of the New York Giants.
Cleveland Browns defensive end and sack king Myles Garrett took Defensive Player of the Year in what was likely the least surprising honoree of the evening. Other contenders for DPOY included Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr.; Denver Broncos linebacker Nik Bonitto; Green Bay Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons; and defensive end Aidan Hutchinson of the Detroit Lions.
The 2025 Offensive Player of the Year award went to Seahawks receiver and human highlight reel Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Other finalists included Patriots QB Drake May, Christian McCaffrey, Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson, and another receiver, Puka Nacua of the Rams.
Browns LB Carson Schwesinger took home Defensive Rookie of the Year. Other finalists included Giants LB Abdul Carter; Seattle safety Nick Emmanwori; ; and two Falcons rookies -- DE James Pearce Jr. and safety Xavier Watts.

All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner of the Washington Commanders was named the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award winner in an emotional presentation. Wagner established the Phenia Mae Fund, named for his mother who passed away from a stroke. The program, which includes his signature FAST54 initiative, champions stroke awareness and patient support across the country. Wagner is a long-time advocate for a number of charitable initiatives and even an anonymous donor to others.
The Assistant Coach of the Year went to Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. The Seahawks' Klint Kubiak was the only other OC named a finalist. Other finalists included three defensive coordinators -- the Philadelphia Eagles' Vic Fangio, Brian Flores of the Minnesota Vikings, and the Vance Joseph.
Super Bowl LX is set for Sunday, Feb. 8, at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
