Elite ball security and explosive downfield chemistry with Brian Thomas Jr. have Jacksonville’s franchise quarterback poised for a dominant season following a standout, high-efficiency minicamp performance.
The hype surrounding Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence hype is getting louder as the regular season fast approaches.
Be it his chemistry with wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., Lawrence is generating all the buzz surrounding a potential massive, playoff-level season for the Jaguars.
Word out of the minicamp has it that head coach Liam Coen is thoroughly impressed with the progress Lawrence is flashing so far.
"I don't know how many picks he actually threw, but I gotta believe it was under five throughout all of OTAs and minicamp," Coen said after Thursday's practice. "So I think while trying to challenge himself and our receivers more with down the field passing, challenging him to try new things of concepts, and fit some throws into maybe windows you would otherwise take a checkdown in, while balancing that, I thought he did a really nice job of taking care of the football, running the whole operation, managing the protections, and some of the concepts on the field. I'm pleased with Trevor's spring. Absolutely."
Lawrence, the top overall pick by Jacksonville in 2021, finished the second half of the 2025 season looking like one of the best quarterbacks in the entire NFL. That potential kept flashing throughout last season, as the Jaguars finished in first place in the AFC South.
Even his production matched the eye test, as the QB wrapped up the regular season with 4,007 passing yards and 29 touchdowns, heating up to a blistering 109.4 passer rating in December and a ridiculous 131.9 rating in January.
The Jaguars always knew the talent out of the Clemson product was worth locking down when they offered a five-year, $275 million contract extension two years ago. That extension kicks in this season.
The Trevor Lawrence-Brian Thomas Jr. chemistry
Brian Thomas Jr. has completely dominated the offseason headlines after overcoming his sophomore slump.
During Wednesday’s packed open practice, Thomas put on a clinic, pulling down multiple vertical touchdowns and explosive deep balls from Lawrence that had the crowd at the Miller Electric Center roaring.
Even veteran wide receiver Jakobi Meyers heaped praise on the work Thomas Jr. put in this offseason to give rise to every Lawrence-BTJ storyline this offseason.
"He has been locked in. He's a smart dude. I don't think he gets enough credit for how smart he is, but he's a smart individual. I just think the longer he's around the game, the more he's in this offense, the older he gets as a man, he's going to continue to get better and better. I think when it really all the way clicks for him, I really don't see how you stop him, but good luck to whoever is trying,” Meyers said.
The hopes from the Jaguars QB-WR duo are sky-high, and so is the anticipation for the 2026 season.
