The Jacksonville Jaguars started the 2026 season with a dominant 34-10 win over the Cleveland Browns, and with that in mind, here are five takeaways from the game.
The Jacksonville Jaguars began their season against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, and the Jaguars played very well, which led to a 34-10 win.
In this game, the Jaguars proved to be ready to go, which was a key reason why they were able to start the season 1-0 and look to be in a good position to once again compete for an AFC South title.
Following the Jaguars dominant win, here are the top five takeaways.
1. Parker Washington's Strong Performance
Early and often in this game, the passing game involved wide receiver Parker Washington who tallied five receptions for 83 yards and one touchdown on six targets for the game.
Overall, the Jacksonville offense looked solid throughout the day against the Browns, and when the Jaguars were moving the ball in the passing game, Trevor Lawrence and Washington were on the same page more often than not.
Heading into Week 2, if the Jaguars continue to emphasize Washington as key a part of the offense, it could mean that he will be a major element of the passing game and the offense as a whole throughout the 2026 season.
2. The Defense Did a Great Job Against the Run
Looking at the defense, the Jaguars completely shut down the Browns' rushing attack as Cleveland ran the ball 22 times for 87 yards, averaged 4.0 yards per carry, and zero touchdowns.
Last season, Jacksonville was one of the top rushing defenses in the NFL and at least through Week 1 it seems the Jaguars are ready to build on that.
Moving forward, if Jacksonville can continue to be a solid rush defense that could enable them to get after opposing quarterbacks and lean on what is a very formidable defensive front.
3. Trevor Lawrence Looked Sharp
Another key takeaway for Jacksonville on the offensive side was the fact that quarterback Trevor Lawrence looked sharp and ready to build on his 2025 campaign as he enters his second season under head coach Liam Coen.
For the game, Lawrence completed 18 of his 23 attempts for 245 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Lawrence also took only one sack, which shows his ability to process well and get the ball out when he needs to.
Over the course of the day, Lawrence looked sharp and appeared to be ready to lead the Jaguars to another postseason push.
4. Cam Little Poised for Another Strong Season
On the special teams side of things, Jaguars kicker Cam Little had a strong performance to start the year as he went 2/2 on field goals and 4/4 on extra points.
With Little having a strong start to the season it seems that he could be one of the top kickers in the NFL once again this season which may make a key difference for Jacksonville especially in tightly contested games.
5. Dominant Performance From the Pass Rush
So, not only did the defense dominate in the run game for the Jaguars, but they also had a very impressive performance getting after Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson as they brought him down a total of five times.
In terms of who sacked Watson, it was a few different players as Josh Hines-Allen had 1.5 sacks, Travon Walker recorded 1.5 sacks, Ventrel Miller tallied one sack, and Branson Combs had one sack as well.
After the performance in Week 1, it seems the Jaguars have a great defensive front, and if they consistently perform like this, it is very possible Jacksonville could have one of the best pass rush units in the entire NFL.
