After a standout spring defined by daily pass breakups, the rising cornerback is translating off-season consistency into a defensive edge for the Jacksonville secondary this season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are done with OTAs and mini-camp, and defensive back Jabar Muhammad is showcasing his talent.

Jabar Muhammad Getting Ready For Year Two

Throughout OTAs, Muhammad has been consistent in being around the ball and making plays. Jaguars defensive pass game coordinator Mathieu Araujo spoke about how well Muhammad has done this offseason.

"I really think he has had a PBU (pass breakup) in every single practice we have had", said Arajuo. "He had an interception in one or two of them as well."

For a defensive back, it's important to get into a groove on the field and build confidence as practices go along. Muhammad surely seems to be doing that.

Muhammad noted that he is "just getting back to being myself", as he goes into year two in the NFL. OTAs are a good way to get acclimated or re-acclimated to the system and learn. Especially with head coach Liam Coen and the company back for their second year.

"When I came in for the offseason program,” Muhammad said, “just carrying that momentum knowing that I can play, knowing that I can just come out here and make plays, knowing that I know the playbook inside and out now."

Jabar Muhammad Overview

Muhammad spent his college football career at Oklahoma State from 2020 to 2022, at Washington in 2023, and at Oregon in 2024. In his college football tenure, Muhammad totaled 159 tackles, 26 passes defended, and two and a half sacks. He also earned a plethora of accolades, including being named Second-Team All-Big 10 in 2024, AP First Team All-PAC 12 in 2023, a Paycom Jim Thorpe Award Finalist for the country's best defensive back, and All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2022.

Although Muhammad had a very productive college football career, he went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft and later signed with the Jaguars, spending the year on the practice squad. It can be an uphill battle for undrafted rookies, but Muhammad has made the most of it.

Muhammad's versatility can get him on the field in 2026, after he was getting used to both nickel and outside corner back in his rookie season. He spoke on his ability to be at different spots in the secondary, and a key feat this offseason was, "just showing that versatility, that I know how to do both positions, " said Muhammad.

Now with the next season on the horizon, he'll join a defensive back group that includes players like Travis Hunter, veteran Jourdan Lewis, and others. Jacksonville will begin training camp in July with rookies reporting on the 25th and veterans on the 28th.
