After helping clinch the AFC South, the former undrafted underdog is leveraging veteran mentorship to sharpen his game and cement his role in Jacksonville’s elite defensive rotation.

Coming out of Colorado in 2025, BJ Green went completely undrafted.

Now, he’s made it to the 53-man roster in Jacksonville and is shaping up to be a valued contribution to the Jacksonville Jaguars defense that went 13-4 and took the AFC South crown.

Coming off that whirlwind, he finally has an entire offseason to catch his breath and build his body. The 6-foot-1, 270-pound defensive lineman opened up on what it felt like to finally find his groove.

“Just attacking everything, taking advantage of having the offseason coming off as a rookie. You don't really have time to really, you don't know what you're going into this year after having success that we had year one,” Green told the media Thursday.

Entering the league as an undrafted free agent, Green had a massive chip on his shoulder as a rookie. However, he quickly carved out a role on the Jaguars' defensive line and silenced any doubts about his ability to play at the next level.

BJ Green Opens up on DL Veterans

There was one thing that incredibly helped the sophomore in making the transition as a rookie, though. Green explained how the DL room veterans, ones like Josh Heins-Allen, Travon Walker, and Devin Lloyd, guided him.

“Being able to win the AFC South, you know, having guys like Devin Lloyd, Josh, and Trey, seeing how they worked, I had no choice but to go out there and attack the offseason. So now, I'm just taking this time right now to hone my craft, put time and effort into who I want myself to be in coming into year two, who I know I can be at this level.”

Hines-Allen is a multi-million dollar superstar, and Walker was a No. 1 overall pick. Green—the undrafted underdog—is absorbing their work ethic like a sponge. Coming from two of the best in the business, Green is sharing a locker room with elite pass rushers and is applying the exact execution to his game.

“There's pressure throughout your career. It's not even just as an undrafted free agent, but it's not anything that I'm not used to. Like I walked on in college, so having that undrafted free agent mindset, it's just the same thing just applied to it the next level. So I'm Pressure is a normal thing to me. So like, yeah, I feel it, but I don't really acknowledge it. I'm just out there playing me. Like I said, it's how can I make BJ Green better every single day,” Green added.

The expectations from the entire Jaguars squad, let alone Green, would be nothing less than perfection coming off a season as an AFC South Contender.
