After a quiet undrafted rookie season, Jabbar Muhammad is dominating minicamp with elite instincts and a relentless work ethic, forcing his way into Jacksonville’s starting secondary plans.
Earlier this offseason, the Jaguars' biggest concern appeared to be at cornerback.
Ever since Greg Newsome bolted for the New York Giants in free agency, there has been buzz surrounding how Anthony Campanile will add depth to the position.
The offseason is proving to be the perfect time to answer that question.
Talking to the media on Day 2 of the Jaguars minicamp, Campanile mentioned how CB Jabbar Muhammad has improved massively, and how he has put a big emphasis on his approach to football and overall technique.
"I think he's improved a ton, but just watching him, he's really been super detailed with his technique. I think that's one of the things that shows up," Campanile said about Muhammad (9:21 mark). "Very, very deliberate, like in the way that he's practicing, and I think that that's created some takeaways for him, and making some plays on the ball. He just always seems to be near the action right now, so he's really done a great job and improved the punch this spring."
Jabbar Muhammad: Jaguars Breakout Player of 2026
Although the Jaguars locked in Montaric Brown on a three-year deal and Travis Hunter is also rumored to play defense full-time next season, Mummamad is flashing serious potential to grab the opportunity to put his name on the map.
Muhammad, who has seemingly recorded a handful of pass breakups each practice, made a nice play on the ball Wednesday to break up a potential touchdown pass in red-zone drills. He also recorded an interception for a second consecutive day, nabbing a bobbled pass in the air.
Muhammad has officially become the breakout star of the Jaguars 2026 offseason. Head coach Liam Coen publicly named Muhammad "arguably the most improved player" on the roster on Day 1 of minicamp.
While his metrics from the pre-draft process in 2025 initially pushed him out of the draft (measuring at 5'9", 182 lbs with a 4.54 forty), his pure coverage instincts are translating directly to the field.
What the second-year CB is doing in Jacksonville goes beyond the standard voluntary workout hype. After grinding away on the practice squad as an undrafted free agent in 2025, the former Oregon standout has suddenly forced his way into the center of the Jaguars’ secondary conversation.
His tape and football IQ most certainly set him apart from the rest of the squad, and that's what you call a sure-shot breakout player in making.
