Pairing the ageless veteran with Foyesade Oluokun could solidify Jacksonville's defense as they look to defend their AFC South title and withstand a rising divisional challenge.

As we enter the final stretch of the NFL off-season, teams will be putting the finishing touches on their rosters before training camps begin in late July. All 32 teams now have their draft classes, as well as several UDFAs, in the fold.

However, there are plenty of big names and quality players still available in the free-agent market. In an ESPN article that surfaced Monday, the Jacksonville Jaguars were named as the best fit for one of those free agents, LB Bobby Wagner.

Bobby Wagner, Ageless Wonder

Bobby Wagner has proven himself to be an ageless wonder. At 35 years old and after 14 seasons in the NFL, Wagner is showing few signs of slowing down. With the Washington Commanders in 2025, Wagner stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of 162 total Tackles, 4.5 sacks, and a pair of interceptions. Along with elite production, Wagner has also been one of the most durable defenders in the league. Wagner has not missed a game since Week 2 of the 2018 season.

Fit In Jacksonville

Bobby Wagner would be an ideal fit in Jacksonville. A linebacker duo of Wagner and Foyesade Oluokun would be among the best in the NFL. The Jaguars lost LB Devin Lloyd to the Carolina Panthers this offseason. Lloyd's departure will definitely hurt, but having Wagner fill that void would allow the Jags' defense to remain strong.  Jacksonville's defense finished 11th in total yards and eighth in scoring last year.

The projected price for Wagner would be a bargain. Spotrac estimates Wagner's market value at $7.7 million for a one-year deal. If the Jaguars can find a way to fit Wagner into their limited cap space, he would be well worth the price.

Final Thoughts

The Jaguars would be very wise to make signing Wagner their top priority. Jacksonville shocked everyone in 2025 by finishing 13-4 and winning the AFC South. Wagner is the best remaining free agent acquisition the team can make.

The Jaguars must do everything they can to fend off the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts in 2026. The Texans finished the 2025 season reeling off nine consecutive wins and then won a playoff game, an achievement that eluded Jacksonville. The Colts came out of the gates strong, winning eight of their first 10 games, before an Achilles tear to QB Daniel Jones derailed their season. Jones is progressing well in his rehab and expects to be 100% before the season starts.

Bringing Wagner into the mix would give Jacksonville not only a chance to repeat last season's success, but also exceed it. The future Hall of Famer has proven that he still has plenty left in the tank.

There is no team that is a better fit for Wagner to continue his illustrious career than the Jacksonville Jaguars. GM James Gladstone should do everything he can to make it happen.
