After a quiet rookie season, the Syracuse product is leveraging elite special teams production and sharpened team chemistry to carve out a versatile role in the Jaguars' backfield.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have concluded their mandatory mini camp, and second-year running back LeQuint Allen Jr. had a lot to say about the off-season and how the team is sticking together.
On the topic of the work that they've been doing this off-season and the team chemistry, Allen told reporters, "We're moving in the right direction. "
"We're connecting," Allen said. "The vets are taking care of the younger guys and building relationships. Everyone has the same goal. Once that happens, it's easier because we're more connected."
Allen in his going into his second year in the NFL and discussed what his approach is and the mindset of running back room. He saw the field sparingly in 2025, but his work ethic may assist him in being more of a part of the offense.
"We have to move as one," Allen said. "We're a unit. We need everyone. The coaches determine my role. I determine my effort and what I establish on the field when it's time."
Allen continued, "I want to be prepared for this season. The train is leaving. We're going toward a common goal. We're going to dominate every opponent who comes our way because we've worked too hard."
Allen was drafted by the Jaguars in the seven round of the 2025 NFL Draft, pick 236, out of Syracuse. In his college career, he rushed for 2,359 and 26 touchdowns. He's a versatile player who's is an asset in the passing game, totaling 119 receptions for 848 yards and six touchdowns.
As a rookie in 2025, Allen wasn't on the field much, only carrying the ball 23 times for 94 yards, while also catching 10 passes for 54 yards. Allen was a key contributor on special teams for the Jaguars, operating as their kick returner. Allen was able to generate 617 yards on kick returns and ranked 5th in yards per return among rookies, averaging 25.7.
Allen is in a running back room that features newly signed free agent Christoper Rodriguez Jr., who was once a Washington Commander. And also, Bysashul Tuten, who rushed for 307 yards and five touchdowns on 83 carries last season. Allen could increase his role on offense this season and when an opportunity presents, make more of an impact on that unit.
Allen is a talented athlete who's skills as a runner and receiver can give the offense more options as to how they can find more of a role for him in the rotation.
