Following Sunday's roster cuts, the Jacksonville Jaguars have their initial 53-man squad. What stands out?
Sunday marked the deadline for final roster cuts around the NFL, leaving the Jacksonsville Jaguars with their official 53-man squad heading into the 2026-2027 NFL season.
In the quarterbacking room, starter Trevor Lawrence will be backed up by Quinn Ewers, who the Jaguars acquired through trade with the Miami Dolphins this past week.
Undrafted free agent rookie QB Joey Aguilar had shown flashes during the preseason, but Jacksonville opted to make a move for Ewers, waiving the former Tennessee standout.
The three main running backs for Jacksonville are joined by veteran tailback Ameer Abdullah, who averaged 7.5 yards per carry throughout the preseason.
Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez Jr. project as the starters, but having Abdullah and LeQuint Allen Jr. in the room supplement Jacksonville's new-look backfield sans Travis Etienne.
In the wide-receiving department, two undrafted free agent rookies made the cut.
CJ Williams and Josh Cameron, who both had strong showings in training camp, will fill in depth positions behind Jacksonville's starters.
Cameron and Williams also both have experience as punt returners, giving Special Teams Coordinator Heath Farwell options in returning operations.
Cameron had a few returns in the Jaguars' 27-24 victory over the New Orleans Saints, including one punt return for 10 yards and one kickoff return for 25 yards.
Finding snaps as a receiver may be hard to come by, but both rookies can provide value in other areas.
On defense, the Jaguars opted to go heavy in the trenches, keeping eleven players on the defensive line.
Headlined by Joshua Hines-Allen and Travon Walker, Bryan Thomas Jr. and Wesley Williams are among the supplementary pieces on the outside.
Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Thomas locked in his spot on the 53-man roster, recording five total tackles, four QB hits, 2.5 sacks and a pass break-up.
Jacksonville's second "BTJ" had a strong offseason, and is rewarded with a spot on the main roster.
One of the more surprising cuts was in the defensive backfield, with cornerback Jabbar Muhammad being waived.
After spending the majority of last season on Jacksonville's practice squad, Muhammad showed strides this offseason, with head coach Liam Coen saying he was the most improved player on the entire roster.
But, he did not produce much during the Jaguars' preseason showings, which may have moved the needle just enough to land him unsigned.
Heading into the 2026-2027 season, the Jaguars are one of the youngest teams in the NFL, coming in with the fourth-lowest average aged roster, according to NFL Analyst Bill Speros.
With the combination of young, budding talent and the veteran pieces on Jacksonville's team, the Jaguars should be back in the mix for an AFC South title.
