Free agency can be a crap shoot at times. You win some and you lose some, as they say. Every move the Jacksonville Jaguars make won't be designed to steal the headlines.
One such move occurred last offseason, with the addition of tight end Johnny Mundt. Mundt knew the role of a veteran, and brought a level of reliability that coaches and teammates came to depend on.
Mundt was less about flash and more about function. As the team hoped to build toward sustained success, the hope was he'd complement its core without disrupting the chemistry.
For the most part, he checked that box.
Mundt's Stint in Jacksonville
Mundt appeared in 16 games with Jacksonville, giving the Jags a steady presence at tight end and another experienced voice in a locker room with postseason ambitions.
The Jaguars didn’t need him to be a featured offensive weapon. They needed consistency, toughness, and a veteran presence. For a team with playoff aspirations, those traits mattered more than box-score production.
He only caught nine passes for 111 yards, but six went for first-down yardage. He gave the Jags a dependable option who understood his role and executed without fuss.
His time with the Jaguars wasn't one of highlight-reel moments. He ultimately proved to be another steady chapter in a career defined by adaptability. While he wasn’t a focal point of the offense, his presence helped round out a roster that was built to compete at a high level week in and week out.

Mundt’s NFL journey is a testament to persistence and professionalism. After entering the league in 2017, he spent several seasons with two different franchises before his time in Duval: the Los Angeles Rams (2017–2021) and the Minnesota Vikings (2022–2024).
He's also the owner of a Super Bowl ring, thanks to his run with the Rams. He continued to carve out a niche as a reliable tight end with the Vikings, contributing in multiple phases of the game.
His experience in different systems added to his versatility, making him an appealing option for teams looking to strengthen the edges of their roster.
He's currently on the Philadelphia Eagles roster. They agreed to terms on a one-year deal on March 13.
