New York Jets running back Breece Hall has offered a brutally honest opinion on the team's rookie quarterback.

New York Jets rookie quarterback Brady Cook made his NFL debut against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, being forced into action due to injuries to both Tyrod Taylor and Justin Fields.

Needless to say, it didn't go very well.

Cook — who entered the game against the Dolphins late in the first quarter following Taylor's groin injury — went just 14-for-30 with 163 yards and a couple of interceptions while being sacked six times. That was good for a 35.8 passer rating.

The Jets lost 34-10.

After the game, running back Breece Hall — who carried the ball 14 times for 43 yards — offered his brutally honest opinion on Cook, and he refused to put the blame on the youngster.

“We could have been better for him tonight,” Hall said, via Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic. “I wouldn’t put that one on him.”

That's for sure.

While Cook obviously wasn't great himself, Jets receivers also dropped a handful of passes, and the offensive line afforded the first-year signal-caller little to no protection.

An undrafted free agent out of Missouri, New York signed Cook shortly after the 2025 NFL Draft and eventually placed him on the practice squad, where he was ultimately elevated.

Let's be clear: Cook is absolutely not the future under center for the Jets, and no one is expecting him to be. In fact, New York losing on Sunday helps its draft position, which will benefit the club in its search for a true franchise quarterback during the offseason.

But you can't help but feel sorry for Cook, who was thrown into the fire and wasn't able to find his footing at any point of the contest.

It's not like the 24-year-old lit it up at Missouri, either. He threw for 2,535 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions while completing 62.6 percent of his passes during his final season with the Tigers last year, although he did total 3,317 yards and 21 passing touchdowns in 2023.

For the Jets, landing one of Fernando Mendoza, Dante Moore or Ty Simpson in the NFL Draft this coming April is an absolute must.

Gang Green has been starving for a franchise quarterback for an eternity, and maybe the Jets will finally find their solution during the spring.

New York is 3-10 on the year and will face the Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday.
