The New York Jets' decision to cancel their pre-draft visit with David Bailey was interesting, to say the least.

The New York Jets own the No. 2 overall pick in this year's NFL Draft, and the general consensus is that they will either be selecting Texas Tech's David Bailey or Ohio State's Arvell Reese.

Recently, Bailey had gained steam as the more likely pick for the Jets ... until they cancelled his pre-draft visit.

Now, that could mean one of two things. Either New York already knows it will be selecting Bailey at No. 2 and doesn't feel the need to waste a top-30 visit on him, or the Jets have absolutely no intention of selecting him.

While the latter feels strange given all of the recent buzz we have heard connecting New York to Bailey, Nick Faria of Jets X-Factor raised a very interesting point: wouldn't the Jets want to speak to the star pass rusher about his questionable past?

"Last season, he got into a physical altercation with a photographer, in which the latter filed a police report against Bailey. In fairness, Bailey did apologize with the following statement after the game," Faria wrote.

Faria then recalled an incident in 2024 when Bailey stomped on another player's face while he was at Stanford, resulting in an ejection.

"Now, maybe the Jets don’t care about those moments of undisciplined play. But it would behoove the team to address it with the player to ensure it doesn’t happen at the NFL level," Faria added.

ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported the reason New York nixed its meeting with Bailey is because it already has all of the information it needs on him, which, again, could mean two different things.

While it would certainly benefit the Jets to sit down with Bailey and speak to him about those previous incidents, it's also entirely possible they aren't worried about it.

Remember: New York did meet with Bailey at the Scouting Combine, so perhaps the Jets probed Bailey then and were satisfied with the results.

And can New York really pass up on the opportunity to nab Bailey?

The 22-year-old racked up 52 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks and three forced fumbles during his final collegiate campaign.

Bailey spent his first three years at Stanford and was productive with the Cardinal, too, totaling 14.5 sacks throughout that time. Twelve of those sacks came over his last two seasons at Stanford before transferring to Texas Tech.

Meanwhile, Reese has a very small sample size of production, and the hype surrounding him is based more on his athleticism and potential.
