Demario Davis is back with the New York Jets for a third stint.
Is the third time the charm for Demario Davis?
The New York Jets are clearly hoping so.
Davis is back with the Jets for his third stint with the franchise and the two-time Pro Bowler is grateful to be back with the organization that drafted him back in 2012.
"I just want to start with how grateful I am to be back," Davis said. "How grateful I am to this organization, how grateful I am to the Johnson family for thinking so highly of me to bring me back. I know what it means to be part of the Jets family, I know what it means to wear these colors, to wear this brand."
Davis played for the Jets from 2012 to 2015. He spent the 2016 season with the Cleveland Browns before returning to New York for the 2017 campaign.
A one-time All-Pro, Davis spent the previous eight seasons with the New Orleans Saints. He signed a two-year, $22 million contract with the Jets this month.
"Number one, we go where we feel like we're being sent to," Davis said. "Number two, I believe in so much of what's being built here under the leadership of Aaron Glenn, a.k.a. AG. ... Anyone who would talk to you about being part of a great organization would tell you it's about the people. Great leaders can either bring in the right people, curate the right environment, or build the right people."
Davis has four interceptions, 45 sacks, 951 solo tackles, 116 tackles for loss and 104 QB hits in his career.
The Jets went 3-14 last season. They became the first team in NFL history to not record a defensive interception and lose five straight games by 23 or more points within a single season.
Davis knows the pressure of playing in New York and isn't running away from it.
"I know what this city's expectations are, I know what the city desires," Davis said. "I don't come in with any false hope, false promises. I'm just here to serve, to give every part of me and lead in a way that everyone who is watching will be proud of.
"And I would just say, man, it's great to be back and be a New York Jet. Everyone should be fired up for us ahead. Now let's get going, let's get to work."
The Jets have the second pick in this year's NFL Draft. They traded for Las Vegas Raiders QB Geno Smith this offseason.
