The New York Jets won't hear the end of the Breece Hall situation until things get completely figured out. The harsh reality here is that Hall is in a position where he could get traded, though it doesn't seem likely as of now. I'm on the train that, unless the Jets get an offer that they simply can't refuse, Hall should be on the roster.
However, in a recent piece, Jack McKessy of USA TODAY listed Hall as a potential trade candidate. His reasoning for it makes a lot of sense, too, considering what we're seeing with the contract situation.
“The Jets placed the franchise tag on Hall this offseason, but if progress stalls on extension talks, Hall could find his way out of New York. The young running back will be 25 in May and was the subject of trade rumors at last year's deadline. He's made clear his frustrations with the Jets over the years, including a recent cheeky comment that Gang Green was spending a lot of money in free agency as he still waited for his long-term extension,” he wrote.
It’s not hard to see why this situation could go either way with Hall right now. He certainly is one of the better young running backs in the NFL, but the lifespan of NFL running backs isn't as long as that of other positions in the league. That's something the Jets will ultimately have to figure out and decide on if they want to give him a long-term contract.
“Ideally, we’d find a way to get a deal done and keep Breece around,” Mougey said during media availability at the NFL Scouting Combine. “I’ve said that for the past year since I got here. Breece is a good player, and we want to find a way to keep him around. “We’ve been going through that process and are still doing so. We have a week to find out, if we can’t get to an agreement, which way we’ll go with the tag.”
Either way, he's on the Jets right now and will hopefully do what's needed for this team to be the football team they're looking to be in the future.
