The New York Jets have been hit with a disappointing prediction from ESPN before facing the Titans on Sunday.
The 2026 NFL season is about to begin. Following training camp and preseason action, the New York Jets will kick things off in Week 1 on the road against the Tennessee Titans.
For second-year head coach Aaron Glenn, a lot is riding on the upcoming campaign. If the Jets do not show notable signs of improvement, his tenure leading the team could come to an abrupt end. Glenn has already faced hot seat rumors throughout the NFL offseason.
Going up against the Titans gives the Jets a good chance at starting the season with a win. Tennessee struggled once again last season as well.
Unfortunately, New York is not receiving a bright outlook for the Week 1 matchup against the Titans from ESPN.
ESPN's matchup predictor is currently giving Tennessee a 57.6 percent chance of coming out with the win. The Jets, on the other hand, sit at 42.1 percent.
Starting off the season with a loss against the Titans would be a disappointing tone to set. If New York is going to turn things around this season, the team needs to figure out how to beat the lower tier teams. Losing to Tennessee could be the start of more disappointment.
A lot has changed for the Jets from last season to this year. They have a new quarterback and a lot of new players defensively. Geno Smith is making his return to New York and is hoping to shock the NFL by leading the Jets to playoff contention.
Among the other notable offseason additions were veteran star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat, linebacker Demario Deavis, and defensive tackle David Onyemata. They also signed pass rusher Kingsley Enagbare and cornerback Nahson Wright, among others.
Only time will tell whether or not ESPN's matchup predictor is correct. On the flip side, New York pulling off a win on the road over the Titans could be the momentum the team needs to put together a much-improved season.
It will be interesting to see what the 2026 season has in store for the Jets. The season will decide whether New York continues growing with its current setup or it decides to make some sweeping changes.
