For as much as the New York Jets fanbase wants to believe that they’re close, the harsh reality is that this franchise is still in for a rebuild, and it could take longer than some hope.

After another horrible season, a new coaching staff led by Aaron Glenn and more questions than answers at quarterback, the Jets are once again searching for help.

Not just for 2026, but for what comes after it.

And according to one longtime NFL voice, that future might not be as soon as some fans hope.

Former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason doesn’t believe the team’s quarterback of the future will come in the 2026 NFL Draft. Instead, he thinks the organization may be positioning itself for 2027.

"Maybe they will be in a better situation to draft one of those guys next year, meaning that I don’t think you want to go out there and try to win six or seven games," Esiason said, per FOX. "Realistically, you look at it, if you want one of those young quarterbacks that is going to change your franchise like Jaxson Dart is doing here for the Giants, you’re going to have another bad year next year to be at the top of that draft to be able to select that guy."

The 2026 quarterback class has already drawn some questions for the Jets after it was announced that Dante Moore would return to college.

His decision leaves the Jets in a rather weird spot.

They don’t have a long-term answer under center, but forcing a pick should be the last thing they do.

Regarding Glenn, the one thing he might want is a QB, as he likely understands that if his team doesn’t play well next year, he’ll be fired.

If the Jets truly believe Glenn is the right coach and that they can be better with a decent quarterback, patience might actually be the smarter route.

At this point, what’s one more bad season for the Jets?

If fans could guarantee a good quarterback for one more bad season, I think it’s safe to say that most of them would be more than fine with that being the case.
