Garrett Wilson Wants to Stay With Jets, but For How Much Longer?
Oct 31, 2026 11:00 AM

New York has to consider anything at this point.

Sitting in third place in the AFC East with a 2-5 record, the New York Jets are in a position where they likely won't have a chance to make the playoffs.

Entering this season, there wasn't a lot of hope that the Jets were going to make the playoffs for most.

The only people who thought the Jets had a chance to make the playoffs were fans who have been begging for it for much of the past two decades. New York finds itself in a similar position to where it has been over the past decade or so, though it's also fair to recognize that the team is a bit better than usual.

Regardless, it's certainly played a factor with some of the guys on the roster, including star wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

Wilson, who could be in trade rumors over the next week and a half, has seemingly grown frustrated with some of what's happened in New York. In his defense, it's almost tough to blame him.

Wilson continues to show he's one of the best wide receivers in football and ultimately just wants to win.

The Jets haven't given him the opportunity to do that, and at some point, a player of his caliber could want out.

However, when speaking to reporters about whether he wants to stay with the organization, it doesn't sound like Wilson is going to request a trade anytime in the near future. He loves being in New York, but he also admitted that he loves winning more, and he wants to start doing that.

"Yeah, I want to be here, man," Wilson said, per ESPN. "I want to win games and that's the one thing we've been missing on here. I love it here. Do I love it more than I love winning? Nah, to be completely honest, but I'm hopeful.

"I've never been the best optimistic guy, but I've found a way and dug deep, and I've been optimistic for three, four, five years now. And that's why these [losses] each weekend hurt a little more."

If Wilson gets traded over the next week and a half, there is an obvious scenario in which he moves to a contender.

Another team in the league could be interested in trading for him because he's under contract through 2030, so they could view him as a long-term piece. However, rumors suggest teams like the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs are expected to be at the top of that list.

Both the Chiefs and 49ers seem to be two of the best teams in football this season, which Wilson could welcome.

However, he also seems somewhat content living in the New York area, so many fans hope the Jets can turn things around, and these comments won't result in losing one of the best players in football.
