Not everyone is happy the New York Jets traded for Geno Smith.

After the New York Jets traded for Las Vegas Raiders QB Geno Smith, some NFL pundits and Jets fans slammed the move.

Smith, who began his NFL career with the Jets in 2013, told Josina Anderson that he couldn't care less.

"Here I am at another pivotal point in my career, where I guess you could say they're writing me off again," Smith said. "I don't know if I can use that again. I got to come up with something new, but that's where we are. I don't really care too much about the outside noise, but I do understand that narratives are being created. Not everyone's gonna be a fan of this move. There's gonna be naysayers as there always is, but who cares about them. I'm looking forward to building with the people who believe, and those people are the ones I want to win for."

In his first stint with the Jets, Smith went 12-18 as a starter. He threw for 5,962 yards, 28 touchdowns and 36 interceptions. It wasn't pretty.

However, Smith is excited to be back with New York.

"It's super like this full-circle moment for me honestly," Smith said. "I can remember my last touchdown was to Quincy Enunwa right there in MetLife Stadium, playing the Ravens that day I tore my ACL. That began my journey and it all led me back here where it all started. I thank God for the opportunity. I thank the Jets for the opportunity."

Smith rejuvenated his career with the Seattle Seahawks after stops with the New York Giants and Los Angeles Chargers. The West Virginia product made the Pro Bowl in 2022 and 2023 and won the 2022 AP Comeback Player of the Year Award.

However, Smith's lone season with the Raiders in 2025 was a disaster. He led the league in interceptions with 17 and went just 2-13.

"Wasn't my best year last year, and a lot of those things I take onus of," Smith said. "I own it myself. I knew that there would be a change being made. Potentially, you know, could have probably stayed with the Raiders in a mentor role, but where I'm at in my career, I really believe I'm one of the better quarterbacks in the league, and I've got to go out there and prove it. I wanted a team that was gonna believe in me and was gonna have my back, and how ironic that it turned out to be the Jets. When I got a chance to speak with coach Glenn, he laid out the plan for me. From that point on, I knew this was somewhere I could consider."

Smith enters next season with 22,168 passing yards, 124 passing touchdowns and 89 career interceptions. His starting record is 42-56-0.
