The Jets HC isn't worried about the struggles.
If the New York Jets are going to be the type of football team that everybody’s hoping for, a lot of it has to start with the run game.
We all know that the Jets’ offense is going to be better this year, and it has been for some of the start of the season with Geno Smith, Garrett Wilson, and some other above-average receivers like Adonai Mitchell.
But it’s also important to recognize that the Jets’ run game hasn’t been great at times over the past few years, including Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers are always an above-average defensive team, so it’s important to take this with some context, but Breece Hall finishing with 16 carries for 29 yards, averaging 1.8 yards per carry, is absolutely ridiculous.
Braelon Allen wasn’t any better with five carries for seven yards, averaging 1.4 yards. In total, the Jets rushed for just 67 yards. That’s never going to win games, and it’s something Glenn spoke about after the game.
“Well, how many yards did we run for last week?” Glenn said, per The Athletic.
“Today was tough. But I still have a lot of trust in our run game. In that situation, I want to try and win the game. We’re in position to try to win. I understand exactly — even with how our defense was playing — “I understand who that (Green Bay) offense is. You go the last couple of years, one of the most explosive offenses in the league. So let’s put it in our hands. Let’s go and try to win it. Everybody has their own philosophy on doing that but I feel like that was the right decision.”
These comments came after Glenn made a questionable decision to run the ball on third and fourth down, giving Hall the ball on third down and Allen a chance on fourth down.
Unfortunately, the Jets were stuffed, but it wasn’t the deciding factor in the game.
Had the Jets’ offense been a bit better, however, and rushed the football at the level everybody knows it can, we’d be looking at some different things. That wasn’t the case, so something has to change.
