Aaron Glenn has a lot of respect for his former boss.
The New York Jets take on the Detroit Lions on Sunday in Week 3, a game that should be one of the best in the NFL. It's also a good chance for the Jets to show whether they have what it takes to compete with some contenders in this league.
After playing a Green Bay Packers team that many considered not only playoff contenders but Super Bowl contenders, this is another chance for the Jets to go out there and prove something. Hopefully, however, it ends in a win this time.
Other storylines enter this game, including Aaron Glenn returning to the role he held from 2021 to 2024.
Glenn did an excellent job with the Lions as a defensive coordinator for a team that was one of the best in the NFL.
Unfortunately for Detroit, things have definitely taken a turn for the worse in that department since Glenn departed, though there's still a lot of mutual respect between Glenn and Lions head coach Dan Campbell.
Glenn recently spoke to reporters about how much respect and love he has for Campbell, and it sounds like the two still have a great relationship.
“There’s so much history there when you think about it, and I can go back to when we were teammates all the way to, well, we went to the same alma mater, too. And then getting a chance to coach in New Orleans for those six years, man it was constant communication when it came to football and then once he started getting these opportunities as far as being a head coach, he would come in, and I didn’t even know he was doing it at that point, I’m assuming he was interviewing, but we were just talking defense.
“I just thought we were talking philosophy and he told me if he got one, he wanted me to be his coordinator, and I will always remember that,” Glenn told the media, H/T Heavy.
As noted above, the Lions' defense hasn't been the same since Glenn left, but there are many factors as to why. Glenn leaving was one of them, but Detroit's personnel just isn't great.
While the two seemingly have a great relationship, Sunday is about getting the job done for the Jets. Campbell isn't going to be worried about making anybody happy, and neither is Glenn. Both guys are trying to get a much-needed win after starting the season 1-1.
